What is the effect of

a) stacking SAM infantry
b) having multiple fighters in 'Intercept' mode

when enemy aircraft are attacking?

Does the AI take into account the fact that there is more than one? Or is it like Civ3 where no matter how many you have the AI will only take one into account?

The AI loves to stack - one of the problems I have with the North Africa scenario is that the Axis has access to aircraft carriers - and they use them! At one point I had a German and an Italian carrier parked outside of Cairo, with six fighters shooting holes in about half the bomber missions I'd launch in a given turn.
Now, it doesnt increase the individual chance that a mission will be intercepted - but if you've got six fighters, I think the game will check against each to see if it intercepts.

I think it checks aginst each one... also something to think about is if you get 2-3 cities near eachother where each of them has several fighters running defence... usually later in the game for me between the overlapping fighter grids and the sheer number of them taken into account I think maybe 1 in 20 stealth bombers will get through :P

though all the spinning airplanes cause me all kinds of lagg

In order to make game have a sence I increased chance of evading up to 20% to bommers and 40 % to jet fighetrs.
