There are quite a few decisions one must make when deciding where to play.

1: Map type?
2: Which race?
3: What opponents? (Not always relevant).

In map designing, same three questions arise, with complete relevance of 3rd one. Racial limitations are more severe in lore-themed map. You can't just shift Illians and Malakim - their starting positions are completely different.

Thus, this poll alongside with another one. Please vote in both.

1 - Choose 3 races you do want to be included in my map.
2 - Choose your prefered landmass.

This poll is about races, as you can see.

In a few days, after I will gather statistics, I will start to build standard-sized map with six of most popular races included, probably with some tweaks - there definitely will be 2 good, 2 neutral and 2 evil races, so even if 5 good races, for example, will take the lead - that would be ignored in favor of some neutral and evil "outsiders".

Landmass depends heavily on the type of game I want. Highlands with Seas is pretty good, makes for lots of chokepoints and strategic moving... great for straight up military engagements. Not so good for anything involving a navy.

it's tough to really decide on 3 races that are basically must haves on a map. What i would like though are specific "groups" of races, i.e. early/middle/late game, or mounted/recon/arcane/etc. Have a map with mostly early game races for an early warfare map, or a map with mostly lategame civs to allow them to grow to their full potential.

Demus, can you outline these categories of races for me? I am kinda noob in FfH, don't know everything about anything. Of course, basic ideas are well understood, but it is always good to use others' experience.

races like the hippus, the doviello and the clan are prime examples of rusher civs, which can conquer an entire continent within the first 100 turns, but will often start to lose their edge later on. A race like the sidar is barely competitive in the early game, and really starts to shine after the first few 100's of turns. Svalts are prime recon candidates, while sheiam and amurites are arcane. I don't know every strat with every race, so i can't lay down the entire network for you, but i would like to see a map based around one or several of these classifications.

Well, what does that means? Shall I put rushers versus rushers in close quarters, and slow guys like Sidar on separate landmass?

for example, or make a seperate map for early game / warlike civs, and one for lategame / peaceful civs. Combat paths would be more difficult, but a might vs magic type of map could be fun, though possibly tough to balance

I like both ideas, but as I said before - my knowledge of game mechanics is sub-par. Maybe someone more experienced will help with laying out races in groups?

Rush civilizations: Clan, Doviello, Hippus, ...
Builder civilizations: ...
Might civilizations: ...
Magic civilizations: ...

And other groups and categories. Would be nice to have this as a starting point.

Builder: Kuriotates, Sidar, Elohim
Might: Khazad, Calabim, Bannor
Magic: Sheim, Amurites

Grigori are cool because they're all three, or can be, depending what you do with them. Focus on adventurers and you can be either might or magic, depending on what you upgrade your adventurers into... or focus on great people in general (not just adventurers) and be a strong builder civ with Bards and Sages coming out your ears.

I voted Khazad, Grigori and Bannor because I like them the most, flavourwise. I love Bannor as an enemy... straightforward human civilization, plenty of kick, but nothing too strange. Grigori have a similar appeal... they play differently than any other FFH civ, but are simplified due to lack of religion, so the learning curve is easier. Khazad are the same but in the other way... they get religion, but they don't get more than basic arcane magic users, so they let you focus on the non-magical side of the game.
