State Religions

Hello again all.

This should really be my last dumb question. (As a side note, the 4 character restriction on search terms makes it very difficult to search this site. For example, I wanted to search for 'how to set a state religion', but of course, that won't work. So....)

How do I go about setting a state religion? Is there a particluar civic or technology that I need?

Thanks,

Rex

Hey,
the only thing you need is a religion in any of your cities. You access the religion advisor (there's buttons for all advisors and other info on the top right of the screen) and select one that you like.
To found a religion you need to be the first to discover the associated tech but once a religion is founded it can spread to you even if you don't have the tech.
This really should also be in the manual.

Thank you for your help.

I'm sure that it's in the manual. The problem is that I'm wasting time at work reading about Civ strategy and thinking about some things that I want to try when I get home :)

The religion advisor is acessed by pressing F7. Also, check the manual, civilopedia, and the Civ IV FAQs sticky before posting a thread.

Sounds like your saying people are not welcome to ask a simple question without first spending hours chasing through the manual, civilopedia, and the Civ IV FAQs sticky??

Hardly. But in general, you should ALWAYS check the stickies before posting a thread. Not just on CFC. On any online forum, you always should check the stickies. This is because your question has most likely been answered once, if not several times before. Asking a question is fine. But going out of your way to post a thread and waste other people's time, just because you were to lazy to look it up, is just plain rude. In the case of setting a state religion, this information is located in the game manual. I am not saying you shouldn't ask questions, but in general you should try and find the answer yourself. The OP did. He used search. I respect him for at least trying that first.

I have never ever in my entire life found an answer in the stickies or old threads for any game or program i have ever used (not unless it is specifically pointed out to me) full stop.

After so many years of that same outcome, finaly i learnt my lesson and nowdays i just assume i won't find anything and ask first up.

Have you ever seen the Simpsons episode where Bart tries to take the electrified cup cake? The obvious lesson is, that if something repeatedly dousn't work, why keep doing it?

Edit: Game manuals is a different issue, usually i will always look up the manual first. Obviously i do succeed very freequently to find the information i want.

There's simply too much information here, and the search system is too limited, to expect someone to be able to find everything they're looking for in a quick fashion. That being said, so long as people keep answering "dumb questions," people will keep asking them. Besides, it gives the plebes - the guys that just graduated from newb school - something to do.
