I have tried about every fix on this forum and still get crashes. Recently I get DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have tried playing small maps, my graphics are turned down way low... pretty much everything suggested on these forums.

I will be playing and I will either get kicked to desktop, the game will freeze and I have to ctrl-alt-delete to get out of it, or the game will freeze and I will actually have to power my computer off with the on/off button, or I get a BSOD.. oh yeah, also it will restart my computer sometimes. I am running the direct download version of the game with the 1.52 patch for DD... also am running it through VDMS.....

here is my dxdiag

okies well you have like 270 gigs of hard drive yet between the 2 drives you have on ly 10gig.

On the c drive it is 2 gig. That is less than 1% drive space available.

What exactly is taking up all that space.

Video files... audio files... digital audio programs. I use this computer to make and record music and video editing. In addition I have a large music collection. Lots of videos as well.

ZOWeee!

Anything backed up?

Dont want to do much adjusting if not.

Only thing I could suggest is to put virtual memory on second drive F:

Kinda funny your two cd drives are d and e and you second drive is f

Anyways, set virtual memory to 2000/2000mb initial and max. on the F: drive.

then, after you have set the f drive, remove the c drives virtual memory.

Another more risky venture would be to disable system restore. That would bring back 10 percent of your hard drive space.

I cant imagine what the seek time would be like the way it is now not to mention the defrag nightmare.

Also, you might consider a second system set up as a database server to store all that stuff.

Alright. then I shall buy another hdd. Will have to be SATA (word!). Will unintall and reload civ on the new hdd... hopefullly it will work.

3 drives and a 6600GT. I hope you have one whopper of a power supply.

BTW

What is your PS and is it running on and independent line with no other devices connected to it?

I can't remember the manufacturer of the power supply, but it is 600watt dual fan. I do not know what you mean when you ask if it is running on an independent line.

oh yes... and I cleared my C drive up... I now have 42 GB free... clearing the F drive up as well. Still burning stuff to DVD so I have yet to try playing CIv again...

The power line to your graphics card should have no other devices attached to it.

No diasey chains.

Well then you should be able to power up half of Las Vegas!:D

Well, I freed up about 42 gigs on the drive that I have Civ installed on. Still having the same problems as shown above. I uninstalled, reinstalled the game and 1.52 patch. Tried playing and got shut down again. I tried it with and without using VDMS. Both give me the same results, I just get to play a few minutes longer when using VDMS.

Will try the fixes shown in these forums.

Well crap!

Load riva tuner and make some vid adjustments.

http://www.guru3d.com/rivatuner/

Turn of fastwrites, vsync, write combine, adjust appeture size to the size of your vram, and reduce agp to 4x.

Use vdmsound to test that set up.

BTW.

what exactly does the bsod say.

Specific kinda crashes you get would be helpful.

IE:

CTD, BSOS,Freeze,or, random reboot.

Will try what you suggested... as far as the crashes I get, sometiems the game will freeze, other times it will crash to desktop and ask me to send and error report (which I have done and get no reply) - at this point sometimes I have to restart my computer in order to get civ to open. I will click on the shortcut to it and it will continue to pop up the error report thing. I also get BSOD and of course, my favorite, the system reboot.

The BSOD says one of two things... one that there is some kind of IRQL thing that happens and the other says something about nv4_dsip.dll

Not sure exatly as I have misplaced the scratch paper notes I was taken :(

Set everything as you described except the appeture size... couldn't find where to change that... here we go......

Oh maybee a reprieve.

Download 81.98 driver

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html

dont install it just yet.

uninstall the old driver.

using these hints

http://www.nvidia.com/object/driver_installation_hints.html

one thing to add. when booting up to install the new driver, do so from safe mode.

Good luck
