Still wondering about what is carried over between ages - some questions

Specifically what happens if you don't research certain techs or civics.

I'm playing my very first game, immortal difficulty, Ben Franklin with the Greeks. Of course I didn't do that great. I made a ton of mistakes, the only thing keeping me in the running is the terrible enemy combat AI.

So I will be several civics and at least one tech from the end when I go to my first age transition in a bit. I'm trying to rush to the Entertainment civic that gives an extra settlement cap before the age ends. I'm also trying to rush out a wonder and capture two more settlements so I don't get a dark age and get a golden age respectively. I wasn't clear on how this stuff worked until yesterday and I think I understand it.

My main question is this- If the age ends and I haven't completed that civic (Entertainment), will I not get as high settlement cap in Exploration? I have read so much here and a bit on Reddit and some people are saying yes, some are saying no.

There seems to be disagreement on what bonuses (from civics, techs, masteries, unique quarters, etc) carry over between ages. From what I've read it looks like some do and some don't, with no way to tell ahead of time. Has anyone really gotten a handle on this?

Most things essentially are automatically given, but settlement cap is a little weird.

Settlement Limit Bonuses themselves doesn't carry over, instead

The new age has a base Settlement Limit (Antiquty:3, Exploration:8,Modern:16) but if your Settlement Limit at the end of the last age is higher than that, your new Base is your previous old Total.
This means (currently, I think this is buggy/unbalanced* and I hope they fix it)
If you are at 7 or less Total Settlement Limit now, it doesn't matter if you get one more boost, you will be at 8 base level regardless.
If you are at 8 or more, get as many Settlement Limit boosts as you can because it will carry over

*its unbalanced/buggy because somethings (leader ability/attributes/mementos) double carry over, if you are in Antiquity at 8 settlement limit and you take the Militaristic Attribute Pick to get +1.. you now have 9
In Exploration you will have 10= 9 Base (because you had 9) + 1 for the Attribute pick

I don't think that is true. In my last game, I ended Exploration with 17 (with some civics granting settlement limit missing), but then started Modern with 22 (one of which was provided by Corona Civica).

My theory is, that the bonus of all techs and civics is added, no matter whether you researched then or not.

Were any other bonuses from Attributes/leader abilities or Wonders?

If it works that way it’s even more broken (I presume you were Mongols AND had Fealty)…should be the only way to reach 21 in Exploration with only 1 carry over bonus.

I rechecked the save and I misremembered: it was only 21 at the beginning of Modern. And then I tried slotting out Corona Civica and made the age transition again and only got to 18. So maybe Corona Civica counts tripple in Modern for some reason?

In Exploration I was at 17, which 4 civics with settlement limit increases still to research. Militaristic settlement increase unlocked, Expansionist increase not. So I could have gotten 22 under the right conditions (Maurya->Normans as Charlemagne) (Edit: make that 23 if I had managed to build El Escorial)

So maybe it is as you say with settlement limit on the end of previous age and then the attribute points and (possibly bugged) mementos get added on top?

Corona civica does count Triple in modern (+1 per age)

So you got 17 as a base* (1 Attribute+2 corona civica in Exploration+4 Tech/civic boosts*+ Base of 10?**)
then Attribute +1
Corona civica +3 (as intended)
Starting Modern with 21

*6 General+2 as Normans-4 you hadn't gotten
**Exploration should have a base of 8 but if you got up to 10 in Antiquity...7 is the Tech/Civic max with Maurya+1 Attribute+1 corona+1?Narrative Event??)

That means if you got all the Civics/Techs and El escorial
22 as a base... and you would start Modern with
22+1 Wonder+3 Memento+1 Attribute.... 27
Yes Very exploity... if it was fixed it would be much nicer

I did not slot corona in Antiquity and I don't think I got a narrative event. But I did take Fealty for +2 so with that it checks out
