Strategic resources?

I'm playing a game with my buddy, he has 1900 iron and I have -55. How does the strategic resource system work? I made a trade with him for 5 iron for 30 turns. After it expired I had 1 swordsman and -55ish iron. Now I have a couple of iron nodes, but I'm still in the negatives...

Also how is it even possible to get that much iron, I was under the impression that each node was 5 resources.

Sounds like a bug.

The bug your buddy has is this one. If you trade with someone and give like 20 iron for 20 turns and in return you get x amount of gold for 45 turns.
Then from turn 20 till turn 45 your friend will get his 20 iron back eatch turn. Thats why he has somutch iron. Never make trades with different time tables always make sure all the deals take the same amount of turns.

About nodes, they are worth 2 or 4 or 6 resources.
