These succession games sounded like fun, so I decided to start one of my own. ;) This is a game made on a map of my own. The map is quite a challenge as there are NO oceans. There are only lakes, a few very large ones and some small ones, and scattered rivers. The terrain is a little wild and unpredictable, making for an interesting layout to play on. We are currently the Canadians and have knowledge of Irrigation, Mining, Bronze Working, Ceremonial Burrial, Horseback Riding, and Roads. The difficultly level is at Warlord, so anyone should be able to play. Plus, the map will be difficult enough.

I'm thinking of everyone taking a turn of about 15 turns, what do you guys think? Let me know if you want to play or not. Once I have about 7 or more people, we'll start.

I think I might join. I usually play on around Warlord/Prince (sometimes I try King when I think I know it all, and quickly find out I have a little more to learn), so this would be around my caliber.

BTW, what are the Barbarians set at, and how many other civs are we up against?

Oh, and is this a Classic/2.42 game?

Up against seven civs. My version is 1.07, so I need a patch before you can get it? I think its classic. Also, the barbarian level is set at highest and the map is full size (100x100).

I'd recommend downloading the 2.42 patch and installing it to make sure that the game is being played on the standard version (though you might want to back up any other games in progress).

One thing we discovered in another succession game is -- once a player saves a higher level version (in this case it went from 2.42 to MGE), it doesn't go back down. So you might start at 1.07, but I can't promise that after I go with my 2.40 (which plays 2.42) that you'll get back in.

If you get enough, I'll join in.

I'll play, but you should probably be ware, if I play too long on this level, there will probably be a revolt that will give the people much more power... If you don't like reps and demos yourself, I sugest Statue of Liberty to keep us from constant political turmoil.

Ok, I have the patch, but it's a zip file with a series of files in it. Do I copy them all into my Civ2 folder or what? The .exe file won't run because it can't file a file called: SMEDSNET.DLL

Sorry about my absence. My comp was really messed up, so we had to take it to a specialist (that is, another specialist).

Alright, so if I got everyone who's playing, here's the list:

Specialist290
Old n Slow
Prof. Garfield
Andu Indorin (Let me know if you're in or not)
(Me)

The attachment is below for Specialist290 to start:

Oh, I meant to say this on the last post. Please keep a time line and post it with the new game for someone else to carry one. We're playing 15 turns at a time.

Here's the log. I thought I'd get a little creative...

THE REIGN OF SPECIALIST I, THE FOUNDER
4000 BC (0)--Changes tax rate from 4.1.5 to 4.0.6. "Decisions, decisions... Should I build here, or try for a 3- or 4-special site and move 1 tile? I guess I'll take my chances." The glorious Canadian capital of Ottawa founded. Thus begins the reign of Specialist I, known to history as Specialist the Founder for laying the cornerstone of Canada, both literally (by putting down the 1st stone of his own Palace) and figuratively. Work begins on a Warrior unit to explore and claim new lands for the Canadian nation.
3980 BC (1)--Specialist I is called to lead his people in the development of a new science. Because of his interest in education, he declares that the people shall work on Alphabet.
3960 BC (2)--A period of quiet. The Canadian people live, die, have kids, throw parties, get into fights, and honor their king.
3940 BC (3)--Still nothing, other than the incessant snoring of Emperor Specialist I because he has nothing to do.
3920 BC (4)--Finally! Specialist I commisions a Warrior unit in Ottawa. Next: Settlers. The Warriors immediately begin their search for glory, land, and an all-out good time.
3900 BC (5)--Move Warrior.
3880 BC (6)--The Canadian Warriors come across a native settlement. Looking for ways to raise money, the unit enters their best tapdancer in the local dancing contests. He takes home the grand prize of 16,000 gold, which is then shipped via runner to the Emperor (However, there is a hole in the money-bag, or so the runner's excuse runs, and only 50 gold reaches Specialist I's hands).
3860-3820 BC (7-9)--Move Warrior.
3800 BC (10)--Carrying out Emperor Specialist's orders, the wise men of Canada discover Alphabet. Their R&R period is cut short when the Emperor orders them to begin work on a Code of Laws at once. Move Warrior.
3780 BC (11)--Move Warrior.
3760 BC (12)--The Canadian Warriors once again come across a native village. The native chief, after feeding and entertaining them, shows them a strange picture made up of trees, mountains, and swamp-grasses. The men are puzzled by this gesture until it connects in one's brain, causing him to shout, "It's a map!" The chief then teaches them the art of Map Making.
3740 BC (13)--Move Warrior.
3720 BC (14)--Ottawa builds Settlers in order to found a new settlement. Next: Temple. Move Warrior and Settler. Unfortunately, that night, Emperor Specialist the Founder dies peacefully in his sleep, leaving both a legacy and unfinished business.

COMMENTS
So far, this looks like it would make for an interesting start. There's a lot of swamps and mountains to the west, but in the hands of someone properly equipped for the job, I wouldn't be surprised to find a few cities in there once my turn comes around again.
Personally, I think our goal for now should be simple expansion and exploration. We should try to find out what's around us and put down a few more cities.

And the save:

Looks ok. Since were playing Canadians, and I'm Canadian, I will use names of smaller cities to give someone else the big names like Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax, Edmonton, Calgary, Rgina, Fredricton, Victoria, Winnipeg and other names like that. If you used the English as the "modified" civ, then we will have some names that work for Canada.

Sorry... I didn't realize that. I actually don't always name my cities according to the civ I play. I like making up my own names (Like "Tim Hortons"... ;) just joking!).

...And when it gets to my turn, I can always whip out a road atlas and use the names listed there if I can't remember the names of any of the big cities or we've used all them (I'm not Canadian, but any decent road atlas of North America includes the Canadian provinces along with the American states and Mexico).
