Would it be possible to use a wiki for collecting the defect reports? We get a lot of duplication, partially due to laziness but also because it is quite daunting to have to search through dozens of pages of posts. The wiki could have newly reported bugs, reported bugs that are fixed (they get 'scratched off'), reported bugs that won't be fixed, and possible work-arounds for the bugs.

It could potentially save people a lot of time and make sure that bugs are not lost to the chatting that inevitably arises on forums.

There's the civ4wiki.com page with a huge FFH section and I'm sure xanaqui wouldn't mind if you put up a bug page there. Of course the best thing to do would be to run a bug tracker (I have some experience with mantis; it should work just fine)

I'm in the software quality assurance business, so I'm all for defect tracking systems. However, it all depends on what the Team is willing to set up and use - since they are the ones who would be running it.

I figured a simple wiki page would be a nice step up from the current, semi-chaotic method. I'd even be willing to help keep it neat and tidy when time permits.

I think the best altenative to have all the bugs collected would be a bugzilla set-up for this project. Only team members would have access though to avoid bug-spam. They could then post the bugs living lists on a publicly available site.

Bugzilla is easily configurable. If it is too complex (all those bug statuses, etc), maybe there is a simpler engine?

Of course not, although I should note that I'm just a large contributor to the wiki; I am not the administrator of that wiki.

Kael & co are the ones you'll need to convince to use any approach, although I suspect either a (set of?) wiki page (s)or any bug tracking system would be quite a bit better than the apparent current method (which seems to be a thread in this BB).
