I've had this little idea for awhile but I don't know how exactly this kind of feature could be implemented to a mod. I'd assume this would require some python or maybe even SDK changes - I just don't know. Maybe someone has already made this kind of feature? Anyway, here's the idea:

Sunken Treasures

Throughout history, ships have sunk all across the seas during wars, storms or by some other disasters. Lots of treasuries have hit the ocean floor and now with our modern day equipment we can finally locate them and bring the loot back to surface.

Now how to make the above happen in the mod?

Some basic rules that I've figured out would be:

- each time ship sinks, there's possibility that treasure is added to that map plot (new goody hut type improvement)
- ships can sink through events (already implemented in my Rise of Mankind mod) and through combat
- events that reveal treasure locations (Museum finds captain's log or something)
- "ocean treasures" become visible once player has researched techs that allow scuba diving (submarine techs?) but only those treasuries that you have discovered through events (so you can't rush through them all once you get the techs required for it)
- treasures can't appear on plots that have sea resource (since you can't have 2 improvements on same plot)
- if plot already has treasure set and another ship sinks on same plot, treasure amount is increased
- when player hits industrial era, sinking ships no longer add treasuries to map plots

So, how this could be made? Or if you know a mod that already has this kind of feature, please point me into right direction ;)

Sounds interesting. FfH2 has shipwrecks that are explorable as lairs, but are always visible. I don't know how much work it will be to add the chance of every ship lost to be salvaged at some point, but the idea is cool.

The treasure chance should be only for ships carrying some expensive unit/-:insert your idea here:- and not just for a sunken ship (to avoid an obvious exploit) and the chance should not be very high; also the treasure value should increase with time: when enough time passes the ship itself can be considered as a historical treasure.

Great idea, I've got one additional suggestion, when you get to an appropriate tech level (something around 1960ish), you should be able to 'investigate' shipwrecks to provide small amounts of research points (structural analysis of failed designs to improve future models). Not sure how it would work exactly but in would be a good way of offseting your industrial era tresure cutoff.

That's a fine idea, i hope you can find a way to implement it. You could still use this idea in the modern era only now you would treat it as salvage, or if you are doing it the turn after the ship was sunk you could even reclaim the unit, like the US did with one of the Battleships at Pearl Harbour in WW2
