Hey, I'd like to check out those pointer to.

I usually make a clown in the disrupted city for the duration of the anarchy. The only trouble with that is switching back when its done.

I'd be interested to see if there is a better/smarter way
You don't necessarily need a clown... all you need to do is get the number of happy faces greater than or equal to the number of unhappy faces. Sometimes a tax collector or scientist will keep the city out of disorder, and contribute more to the empire.

Background: Whomp, a friend of mine, put together a Succession Game for Chukchi Husky, who wanted to improve his game. Chukchi drew the turnset that involved the government switch, and he had some problems dealing with the rioting... so I posted some pointers. These pointers are rather basic, as Chukchi wanted to learn the mechanics of micromanaging as well as the technique... but here are the links:

The first link will take you straight to the post. This second link will take you to the page in the thread, if you want to read through the whole game.

Here are some additional pointers that may help:
  • When MMing to hire specialists, consider all available tiles.
  • You may need to "tile swap" in some cases. (Pull a citizen off a tile in one town so a citizen in another town can use that tile.)
  • Look for any surplus food tiles. You may need to put citizens on these tiles in addition to hiring specialists.
  • Once out of Despotism, an irrigated Bonus Grassland tile can be a Good Thing.
  • Once rails are available, cities on plains may need to get some of their tiles mined.
  • Read Bede's War Academy article on how to use specialists to get some value out of corrupt towns.

@Queen of Swords: Do you know how to micromanage the cities to prevent that? I posted some pointers for another player a while backk... I could dig up a link if you'd like.

Thanks for the links (because I didn't know you could micromanage and prevent city improvements being destroyed). I have a horrible slow connection at home so I'll look at your screenshots tomorrow at work.

in despotism each town, city, & metropolis supports X # of units (i don't have it memorized) when u switch to republic all of your units (including workers & settlers) have to be payed for

Not quite accurate, for C3C. You have some unit support in Republic, you just do not have any MP's. The Pedia shows the unit support for each government.

Republic in C3C support is:
town (pop 1-6) 1 unit
city (pop 7-12) 3 units
metro (pop 13+) 4 units

In vanilla and PTW there is zero support for units in Republic, but the support cost is only 1gpt, whereas in C3C it is 2gpt for units over the support limit.
