Hi everyone, first post :)

I've been play Civ since Civ 3. But my question lies with civ 4 :)

Basically i have civ 4 and the BTS expansion. However, i was wondering what specs do i need to have a game with at least 10+ AI civs and on the biggest map size possible. WITHOUT it crashing at around 1600 era (or whenever the game starts to get interesting) I accept the game is demanding but surely there must be a spec list for a BIG game somewhere :D

Any help appreciated

John

Thanks for the quick response :) and welcome :p

no it doesn't give an error message it just closes the game and goes back to the desktop, makes noises that computers make when theyre trying to do something for about 30 seconds, and then it calms down back to idle as if i'd never even been playing the game. So i'm left sitting looking at the desktop wondering why the hell i've just lost 300 years worth of civ game :(

to be fair this PC is a bit crappy, but i'm getting a new laptop in a little over a month with these specs:

Processor: Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (clock speed : 2.40 GHz, front side bus : 1066 MHz, 2nd level cache : 3 MB)
OS: Windows Vista Home premium 32 bit (i plan on going to windows 7 when it goes commercial though, so from pre-release stats that should in theory boost performance a bit)
GFX card: ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650 (512mb dedicated)
RAM: 4GB (2 x 2GB)
resolution: 1440 x 900

How should that fare up in a big game like the one i described above :)

need anything else let me know

any tips on getting the game to run better? (i know the usual dip the graphics and so on, but are there any others?)

good good :)

and yeah i keep all my drivers up to date. I'll just put it down to my computers rubbishness, and try again when i get my new laptop :D
