it's about 2:45am before the big day and i just wanted to write a note thanking all the developers who have spent so much time developing civ iv. your work is very appreciated, everyone is so excited about the game. i know i have not felt so excited about a game in a long time, not since i was much younger. i have actually been checking the forums on occasion for the past few months glancing at the latest news, seeing a few of the amazing looking screen shots, etc, and eagerly awaiting the day. well, it's today! we know you have spent so much time on it, and i for one cannot thank you enough for your efforts. it is just a game, but it's such a good game with a long tradition now. the quality of the effort is obvious even from the little information i have seen so far, the graphics are beautiful, the rule changes sound great, etc, it really sounds like a re-thinking of the game and not just a tweaking of one thing or the other, a real high quality effort to make a brand new civilization iv. i'm very impressed by all the polish on the screenshots i've seen, it really looks like it all came together this time, and that's no small thing on such a large project. congratulations to you guys and thank you so much for all your hard work!

and to the community too, i have never taken time really to thank the folks who put together all the great mods and things. i don't think these people get thanks enough. you might not know it, but some of us out there play your mods as much as we play the original game. i know if it wasn't for the ancient med mod (one of my absolute favorites) i might not have kept my sanity all the way through until civ iv was released. i played that mod over and over and over it was so much fun. and that goes for the other mods too, i have played a number of them, and to all the great folks who spend countless hours putting together units and terrain graphics and things, thank you all so much too. i'm always amazed at how much serious work people put into their projects, and for the sheer enjoyment of it, and pride, because they aren't getting paid! lol.

i know, this post sounds like a big love fest. but dammit it's the release of civ iv, and i can be all love and happiness for one day before everyone starts complaining about something. :) today is a new day! and i can't wait to play game after game of civ iv, i'm so excited! now i better get to bed, when i wake up EB games should have my copy at the store!

I agree, it's been a real long time since I've been this excited about a game. That really says something about the quality of the product.

I know a fair number of people were upset about Civilization 3 when it came out and continued to favor the previous version over it but I have to say you guys have always outdone yourselves. Sure there were some bugs but I think each game you produce is fantastic. I cannot find another game which has consumed my precious time as much as civilization and for that all you developers deserve a pay raise!

And to add, I have to agree with calinator. With all these hyped first person shooters that have come out over the past year including Doom 3, Half-Life 2, Halo 2, and other games such as World of Warcraft and Neverwinter Nights, I am still incredibly excited about this game.

Thank You indeed. Firaxis, you do a good job of listening to the community and incorporating its feedback into the product. I am already certain that Civ4 will be my favorite game of the next few years.

civ4. >>> civ1, civ2, civ3.

I honestly belive this is going to be the case, atleast when all the expansions and patches are done with civ4.
