Hey guys,

Just wanted to say that thanks to this community and the guys and gals who put in hard work towards making mods and helping newbies.

I just released a Dune Houses mod that although is completely unfinished it is more than I could have achieved without the hard work and bits of advice I received on here so it's up for people to look at an enjoy what was possible from their own hard work. :)

Also I need idea's and help with how to achieve things, most of all I need a way to remove the original sponsors once mine are all filled out, I also need a way to easily create traits for sponsors as I'm currently using stuff I can copy and past from game XML files and other mod XML's, without much knowledge of LUA and such I mostly need help with understanding syntax, and structure, looks easy so can anyone provide tutorials on LUA? Help with updating in-game items? and creating custom units?

Anyways thanks again to everyone here. :)

Dune Houses Mod

You can take a look at Project Chiron on the workshop for how to disable sponsors. I suspect/suggest you update their <playable> and <playable-AI> entries to avoid conflicting with other mods too badly.

Happy to hear about your recent release and hope you keep up the good work!

I quite like your forum threads as I often find myself seeing them, often quite interesting topics such as your "Creating a desert map...With no water" thread or "Removing Original Sponsors" which solves the above problem several times over all very well

Your forum threads are often very helpful and sometimes can give good ideas. I used to play all the Civ games (even Alpha Centauri ) and I made some mods for Civ5 a few years ago. I just got into modding CivBE a couple of days ago and found your "Adding traits..." thread very helpful.

I know that your creating a dune mod, I had downloaded it on steam before I started modding, and was thinking in the dune film the 'units' could ride the sand worms so you could add a carry X amount of units mod to the worms in order to allow units to ride them. I also remember that types of terrain played in the film specifically rock formations offered protection from the sand worms (which could be included). They also used some technology to create force field walls (a possible city defence mod) and a thumping thing that attracted sand worms, this could be used in game to attack an enemy or lower their defences (kind of the opposite of the ultrasonic fence, unlocked form the ecology tech). Spice farming could be increased using improvements (modified farm) and the miasmic condenser, which adds miasma could be modified to add spice and increase yields as it is harvested (like how cutting a forest increases production) or heal units in the spice, as they are healed by being in miasma (transgenic's, alien hybridisation, technologies performs this). This is just a few ideas I'm sure you've already had, sorry I cant be more specific with reference materials, but my computers mother board has died and I am in the process of fixing it (hoping a BIOS update is all it needs), I think the above mods could be relatively simple to write and I may put some example code up later ... If I can fix my PC :(

I really must watch Dune again ... and Serenity .. and Firefly

Mercury: Thanks for the compliments, I like to be helpful for others as much as they are for me, just another way to help the world go round. :)

I really like a lot of your idea's there, some of them I've had myself but you brought up some things I hadn't considered, not only the idea's themselves but the suggestions on implementation, being new to the Civ modding scene, there are game engine mechanics that I haven't considered due to lack of knowledge on them and I get stuck on how to achieve what I want but you've connected a few dots for me here. The thumper idea stands out nicely, I love the idea of passive aggressive technologies, things like an electro-magnetic pulse, bring someone down without touching them, mixed with actual combat passive attacks can be devastating. :)

It's funny, I watched Dune last night actually, the three hour extended edition lol, for some inspiration and the whole time I didn't make the connection between worms and rock, so thanks I had completely over-looked that and it's not a small thing to over-look, maybe Grassland, Plains or Tundra can be changed to some form of rock strata or magma flows from dead volcanoes, after all a new tileset is definitely needed to give it that true Dune feel. :)

Serenity eh...Might be something to chuck on tonight...Good taste in movies/shows. ;)
