I apologize if there is a thread like this, but the AI actually did something smart(or at least I think so). I signed an ROP with India and a turn later a Indian warrior fortifies in my territory. When I discovered steam power, I found that the only source of coal was where the Indian warrior was fortified on! I also didn't road the square. Is the AI actually smart enough to deny you a resource? (I don't have the screen  sorry.) The Indians never attacked me though. They never had steam power so they must be cheating if they know where the coal is.

The AI knows where every single resource is, so they could blockade it from you. What level is this on? Only way I see the AI doing that is by a bug, because the AI doesn't really use the knowledge, except to found cities there.

This sounds simular to what happened to my coal. I had like ten cities on the jungle in one of my games, and the AI puts on city on the jungle and they got the only source of coal. So they must have predicted were the coal was.

I signed a right of passage with them.

You should've broke the deal once you could of.

As I said in my first post :p

That's not fair that the AI just builds cities right on resources. We humans can't excactly pinpoint were the resouces are.

On Chieftain and Warlord (And I think Regent as well), the AI doesn't use this knowledge, but once you go to Monarch, you have to expand quickly with enough defense to survive :king:

Really??? I was sure that they predict were the resources are in chieftain. But now I play warlord.

On the lower levels, you get the advantage, they get disadvantages, if they get a resource, it's by sheer luck, just like you.

AIs build cities near resources, they just know where they are ages before necessary tech. it was written here few times.

about ROP : once i had one with AI and they had some units in my territory. they were going to declare, but instead of first moving units in positions, they declared war and so the couldn't use movement bonus just to take few cities next turn [rep]. that was the lesson how not to make ROP rape.

It is a bit lucky if you get resources, but because you can roughly predict were resources are by terrain. For example coal in jungles and mountains. It's not all luck.
