The Best Government Type

There are ways to avoid senate interference entirely.

The simplist is to use a Partisan when capturing an enemy city. This way no talks are immediately initiated from the AI. Then, you go through your embassy and choose to talk to that civ. They will yell at you and that's it. No Senate interaction at all.

This is known as the Emissary's Ploy.

I don't know what ya'll are talking about. I like being a republic. Then when i go into a real war I go to fundimintalism and start building units. Also I think that republic is better for the player who might have to go to war at a moments notice, because if your in demo you can't have any units out without pissing everyone off, and if your fund, you get lots of money but not the all importent techs needed to win the war. Republics work better in those situations i think. Plus demo sucks cuz i can't keep everyoe happy or content. Some city is always revloting.

A pity most of the good Demo strats are buried way down in this forum. (If you don't look at the indew thread.)

Anyway, after I changed from going Commie to Demo in the late game, my scores almost skyrocketed. What's important is to not have too many units outside of cities. I only have Settlers/Engineers outside cities under Demo. (Maybe a few defensive units at choke points in a fort.)

Your tech will be advancing so fast in Democracy that it would be a waste to keep lots of forces around anyway. Disband or expend the military to help rush improvements or freights, then rush better forces just before you need them for the next war. Or better yet, find a way to avoid the war and put the money saved into further improvements...

Or just buying up the AI cities with spies.....

Democracy is simply the best type of government: The highest pecentage of science and taxes, the highest amounts for freight deliveries. War in democracy is easy: I usually bribe AI cities. If the senate decides that the time for a cease fire has come, I incite revolts in some AI cities (which will end the cease fire the very next turn), paying twice the price.
But the AI attacks me again - and that's what I wanted.
Being a democrat, I earn tons of gold by freights, so I can afford that strategy.
But my special strategy is the spy war against democratic AI civs.
I poison water supplies till the cities are down to size 1 - so they cannot support many units. My spies also sabotage AI units (I usually use 2 spies),
so that they can be destroyed by weaker units.
A side effect of poisoning and sabotaging is, that most of my spies become veterans.
Massive attacks destroy all AI city improvements - they're kicked back to the stone age. And they will soon switch their government type - so their cities can be bribed again.
