The Guilds

So, after playing quite a few games of FfH2 that never really reached the end for one reason or another, I recently learned (courtesy of my new friendly black dragon) that there were once Guilds in FfH. I understand that the Ratcatcher's Guild still exists as some form of event (that I've never come across), and was just wondering whether the other Guilds are also now events (I presume at least some are).

I am probably about to play my first game to completion, so what should I be looking out for? Are the events things you have to wait until close to the end for?

Events are completely random. Ratcatchers event will most likely be triggered with a city that has a high crime rate. Most of the other Guilds have been dropped completely, but I'm pretty sure you can still get Gaelan from an event, as well as there being some sort of Cult of the Dragon events.
