The importance of the white line(s), below health bar, in combat

You haven't figured this out until now? I agree this seems strange and unrealistic, but think of every unit as a division. It's not very common that all divisions fight at once IRL. This is what happens when you have build an army and to keep it together you'll need a great leader or a military academy. See? It isn't that strange. By the way, Pearl Jam kick ass.

 I guess I just never thought about it. I'm simply not a person that calculates the odds of winning and keeps charts of the RNG. I just play the way I've always played. Since civ1 I've just been in the habit of moving my whole stack to a square first, then starting the attack. It was just 'the thing to do'. (And yes, Pearl Jam does rock...:goodjob: )

I believe that your artillary will bombard the first attack. If you have a second artillary in your stack, it will bombard against the second attack, etc...
This is correct. Whether the artillery pieces fired or moved during your turn or not has no effect.

I'm glad someone asked. I thought they had something to do woth terrain defence bonus or something. C3 Gold and C3C both came with pdf manuals

I too am glad to learn this. I think now that past defensive artillary failures where in fact misses. And those little tiny words flash by so quick. This is cool as it will allow me to be more aggressive and thorough with my artillary stacks. Cheers!
