So a poll on the modpacks forum had people voting which era they found the most boring.
Modern era won by far. People cite reasons such as waiting to win the space race or other victory, or they know they lost. Or all the lands are grabbed and empires carved out.
I think Civ always played out like that. The challenge lay in the building. The "fat empire" waiting to retire is the point where most of us restart. I have more unfinished civ 4 games than I can count.
So, why do Firaxis keep forgetting to make the modern era interesting? we need some new challenge there. Should be plenty. The space ship race is just one goal you should be able to pursue. What about saving the earth from global warming? Are there really no interesting ideas for this era, it must eternally be this "yawny" seen-it-all-done-it-all part of every civ game where you just wish it would end?
Is it even possible to mod, or are we talking about a fundamental design question? Is this how civ is supposed to be, and nothing can change it?
