I was looking on the index of techs on a couple conquests. At least in Napoleonic Europe and Sword of the Shogun, there is a tech entitled "Hidden Railroads". I have temporarily misplaced my Conquest CD, so would someone mind giving a civ this staring tech, and see what happens. I'm thinking it might be like Future Tech #7 or something. Do you recieve railroads in every tile? Or is it just a fluke?

It is a way to allow workers to function while not actually allowing railroads to be built. Workers have to be allowed to build everything or they won't build anything. Since it is tied to a tech that will not be researched nobody can actually trigger it.

Giving this as a free tech will allow civs with access to coal and iron to build railroads. That's all.

Another approach to this is the use of Guinea Pigs in the Mesoamerican scenario. Strange that guys who are right down the hall came up with different ways to solve the same problem.

i see...interesting programming glitch. I wonder why they chose that name though.

welli guess the hidden railroads one does sort of make sence, seeing as the English did "hide" their railroad technology for a short while.

The "Hidden Railroads" isn't the glitch. The glitch is that the AI won't do any terraforming unless they think that they can build railroads under some circumstance. I'll ask them why they named it that in nearly all of the Conquests tomorrow when they get in. I assume it's becuase they needed the railroad tech but didn't want it to appear in the game, hence Hidden Railroad (that and "cut and paste" from the first working Conquest).

I loved the guinea pigs, I did a  when I first saw them though. A very intresting solution to the problem they were faced with.
