Yeah, was wondered too -Did anyone test them already?
In theory i can understand their role on the battlefield, just wanna hear anyone who tried dem already.

Havent played as the Spanish yet but played against them a bunch. I hate them! Those Coquistas can run halfway across my borders and grab workers and I cannot catch em no matter what! I would try this if you want to be the Spanish. Drives me nuts.:crazyeye:

Oh I forgot to add/ask this since I mentioned it maybe someone can tell me.

What happens to the workers when the AI nabs them? I trid to cut off their retreat like the AI does me but there gone. Where do they go , they sem to poof.

I was wondering where all my captures workers went. I am also under the impression that if the AI captures your workers and has a chance to get away with them they will, otherwise they disband them. I did happen to see this one turn ( I had used a plane to scout the area ) so I am assuming this happens often when you can not see it happen.

Indeed Ive seen many times the AI disband the workers that they capture within ur borders and cant bring to safety in 1 turn.

The spanish have very good traits and their UU might not b the best on 1 on 1 combat but can do wonders for ur war if u use them to cut resources

Thats what I am thinking too. Their UU only replaces the explorer which most people have probably never even built before. You can still use Knights and Cavalry , but I see the Conquista's as pretty nifty at running through a rivals land and capturing workers or just decoying the AI to chase them down through jungle or mountains is very neat.

It is funny though , that they have a German Shepard with them  It is like thats what they are supposed to do is chase down workers and send the dog on em.

The spanish are, ehm, commercial and religious. That, plus the fact that you won't get a golden age in despotism most of the time, will make that they won't suck any how.
I admit that their UU sucks, but that doesn't stop people to play the americans... You don't need UU to win the game (although it helps)

I am just finishing up a conquest game as the Spanish. Commercial religious is a very powerful combination. Conquistadors are good for pillaging enemy resources, this was very useful in my game. A half dozed conquistadors took away, oil, rubber, and 4 luxuries from my largest foe on the first round of war. Tanks had just hit the scene, he went down like a cold beer.

In my latest game (check my thread, the save is in it!) I just played the Spanish for the first time and have enjoyed playing as them. the Conquistador seems a very fun & useful unit but unfortunatly i havent had the chance to REALLY put `em to use. i have once in a war. but the Civ had a fairly small border (i spced them out to send them in) and could stop them with all the roads they had before they could do a whole lot of damage.

I just played as the Spanish and the Conquistadors are very good for pillaging. I used about 15 of them and in two turns I pillaged every improvement they had and brought their civ back to the bronze age.

NOTE: A Conquistador is not very effective up against a Pikeman or anything above.
