The state of the fanatican economy is not good.

First I noticed that at 100% tax, the economy was generating a lowly 100 gold per turn. we are the largest, most powerful nation on the map, but we generate a tiny amount of gold.

And why is this? I believe it is because we have very few marketplaces and banks.

For example, Nara generates 12gpt. fairly impressive. yet the city still doesnt have a marketplace. I would have given it a marketplace as soon as it reached 6gpt, or maybe 8 gold per turn if we didnt have Adam Smiths.

if this city had a marketplace and bank, it would be generating 24gpt, placing it in the top 5 money making cities.

now if we did this in most of our major cities, lets say five of them that didn't have marketplaces, that would easily be 50gpt.

so here's a plan which should take place immediately when we make peace with all. build a marketplace in every city that is generating 10gpt or more. five cities that are generating 20gpt or more (including the gold generated by the marketplaces) should build banks. Then we could get Wall street, which is up to 50gpt.

I believe that we could triple our economy my doing this. I also believe, however, that the reason that this hasn't been done before is a good one. Is it because we were at war for so long?

So I ask two questions -
Do you reckon my plan is good?
For what reson didn't we build marketplaces earlier? I haven't been here this long, so I don't really know.

It's a fine plan. The reason we are so light on financial institutions is the same reason we are light on much of our infrastructure: our success is dependant upon military conquest so that has been our priority. We may never be in the position to use financial strategy like this and we may never need to. After we reach a certain point in size and war capability we will be able to simply roll through opponents consecutively, without a great need of support or infrastructure.

I had a few trade instructions, but couldn't post them because my ISP's router failed at about noon yesterday. :( (24 hours without CFC!)

No marketplaces!? How have we been spending our time the last 4000 years? Let's get on the job.

Gentlemen, the reason is due to our ongoing dedication to the military, which has actually yielded fine results. After all, we just took 7 cities from India including the capital, Dehli.

As it looks like I will be running the Domestic Office this term, I plan to look at each city and see how it can be maximized. You make some good points, GBM, and as governor of your province you will be able to help bring forth change.

And Feodor, we just picked up a big block of land in India. When we finally annex that area, it will need a governor(nudge, nudge). ;)

I agree with Gingerbread Man.

I think (even at war) we would let one or two cities building marketplaces.

War is our priority but we must keep other things (like our economy) growing.

I'm already planning on making sure every Southwest City has a marketplace in it (esp. those with good gpt).

I've been inspecting potential palaces in every city we've taken to date. Hopefully, when we reach democracy, the Indian cities will have more than 1 shield production each.

I've got big plans for my province, oh yes. i'll build marketplaces in all my cities, in time.

remember that at the moment a marketplace will give 11 happy faces to a city at the moment.
