:) Greetings fellow Civ3 fans! I have started this thread so that people like yourself can discuss things that they have renamed.

I have renamed archers: Robin Hood and Legolas.
I have renamed Panzers: Killer and Hitlers Panzer.
I would rename a calvary George Washington.
I once renamed a mideveil infantry Joan, then later in the game I named a knight Joan de' ark.
And I once renamed a settler Alexander who then founded Alexandria.
Since I am not getting many replies I am going to juice it up.
I have had cities named Pie, Bad Neusdat,The Shire, Peaceful Valley.I will continue to ad more as I think of them. Once when I attempted to give a city a name that was alredy in existance my foriegn advisor told me to choose a city with a unique name. So I did the city was named Unique. I have had a city named Peaceful Hills.Oh another thing I wouldn't mind you posting stuff.

Now this is just depressing it has been three hours so far and still no replies. Could someone at least tell me what I am doing wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I renamed my galleon to "Odin"(I'm Scandinavia) after standing 4 frigate attacks

I always rename my victorious units to 'kmad'

I rename cities depending if I'm playing a theme ... then I'd remane everything

eg.
Disease was the theme
Civ = the Plague
Leader = Influenza Pox
Cities then had illness, sickness themes
First city is usually Seed, Genesis, haven, Spore, depending on theme.

Armies are usually named after the enemy at the time of appearance, or if created then something related to my Civ.

Whenever I capture an enemy city, I call it "City (Insert Number Here)". For example the first city I ever captured was "City 1", and the latest one I have captured in my savegame is "City 18". It's kind of degrading to turn a city into a statistic, but it is much easier on me when identifying which cities I have captured and to whom they belong to. Imagine being from place called "City 6"

BTW, This idea was from one of my other favorite games, Half-Life 2!

Actually the first time I ever played CivIII I renamed the cities

MoronVille, Stupid City, BoneheadTown, Idiot Town, etc

mainly because I felt pretty *stupid* as I played through my first game. Needless to say it was an amazing loss.

Nothing like being the ruler over a nation of intellectually challenged citizens  .

Thank you everyone for posting stuff!! I was starting to get worried when nobody was posting stuff. All good things to rename that I am sure to use when I play. You know If you look in an atlas you will find a lot of surprising city names. It is always fun to name the city that you live in.

I always try to rename my conquered cities inkeeping with my civ. For example, if I'm Egypt and conquer a Greek city, I tend to call it Naucratis (the name of the Egyptian city reserved for the use of the Greeks). Otherwise, I give them names according to a list of important Ancient Egyptian cities. I tend not to name units though.

I have a set list of names that I keep handy when I play. I use them mainly for the QSC period of the game. Once I'm past that period, I normally only name great leader producers with names like First Swordsman, Second Swordsman, etc.

Warriors:
Thor, Odin, Conan, Hercules, Ajax, Achilles, Hector, Fezzik, Jason, Boromir, Faramir, Gimli, Gloin, Aragorn, Arathorn, Tyr, Sting, Hulk, Rambo, Rock, Stone Cold, Goldberg, Yokozuna, Zeus

Archers:
William, Tell, Odysseus, Orion, Robin, Hood, Artemis, Hawkeye, Legolas

Spearnem (though I rarely build them anymore):
Claudius, Flavius, Maximus, Livius, Augustus, Octavius, Athos, Porthos, Aramis, Dartagnan, Romulus, Remus, Orestes, Marius, Titus, Agrippa, Hadrian, Trajan

Horseman:
Ares, Boadicea, Ghengis, Hippolyta, Marpesia, Xena, Ephiny, Athena, Eoywn, Arwen, Theoden, Eomer, Freyja, Brunhilde

Scouts & Galleys:
Lewis, Clark, Boone, Crockett, Bowie, Travis, Drake, Hudson, DeSoto, Balboa, DeLeon, Bolivar, Pizarro, DeGama, Joliet, Diaz, Cabot, Coronado

When I capture an enemy city, sometimes I will rename it to something from my civ. e.g. with Japan I will sometimes rename cities things like Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Kyushu, Tsushima, Shikoku, Hokkaido, Honshu, as well as the names of other islands in Japan.

That reminds me of one time in Civ 2 when I took over the world as Japan in a WW2 scenario, and I renamed all the cities to their Japanese names. For example, when I was invading the US, Los Angeles became Rosanzerusu and San Francisco became Sanfuransisuko.

 That is quite creative, Sennomulo. And Denyd, you have put quite a lot of thought into that list. I feel that I should pay for such a list...

Actually, I got tired of trying to think up names in the wee hours of the morning, so I started writing them down. I later transferred them to a spreadsheet and grouped them by type in columns and printed it out. A little internet surfing added some more names to the file, then I printed out 20 copies of it and keep the stack by my PC and check them off as I use them. It makes the log entries a lot easier to track what's going on.

Warning, names like "Godzilla Killer of All Spearman" is not a timesaver for unit naming

I always name my captial after my girlfriend so when she asks "what are you doing"?
I can say "Honey the Arabs just haven't been real nice lately so I'm just protecting you".

I've also name elites Super Jack Whomp, Catta Whomp, Massive Whomp etc.

For some reason "Barbie Doll" when Zerksees let his daughter name the city in one of his come from way behind wins just slays me for some reason .

I hacked the game files so that when a unit got an upgrade it said...

"your veteran spearman is now l33t"

Thank you for more numerous ideas. Here are some more names for cities that I got off the internet:Tokoname/Calnevari/Yosmite/Eubank/Albany/Aichi/Nagoya/Alpha/Jamestown/ Marshes Siding/Aaron/Pulaski/Static/Seventy Six/Snow/Seminary/Highway/Browns Crosswords/Rowena/Tengaa/Sewellton/Bryan/Creelsbaro/India City/Texakana/ Spaceland/Texico/Texico, and Seatac. You can also add these to states:Crossing/ Depot/ Colony/City/Gardens/Springs/Valley, and Port.

I generally play large or huge maps. My renaming is generally for purely practical purposes to help me keep track of unit assignments. If I have a transport that I want to dedicate to ferrying units between cities "A" and "B", I will rename it to "A-B ferry" so I won't forget and use it for other purposes. When I assign fighters to Air Superiority I rename them "Interceptor" for similar reasons.

Of course, I also have to be diligent in restoring their name when I change their role again.

Wow Genius! And beleive you me thats saying something.
