Guess what? Here are two non-cheats that allow you to move units between worlds when they're not supposed to. There may be a patch out now to fix this, but, if there isn't, I suggest that you make good use of this programming loophole to make certain things easier.

Here's the first and most useful one: If you have cities on two worlds, and you are trying to move a unit from one to the other, here's what you do:
Make sure the unit is activated
Without pressing "v" or right-clicking, use the mouse to click in your nearest city. If it's not in immediate view, you can zoom out.
Scroll through the cities with the arrow keys, until it shows a city on the destination world. Then, you can exit the city screen.
Press "c" to center on the unit.
You will see the cursor (blinking square corners) in the new world.
Simply move the unit in any direction using the arrow keys, and, if the terrain you're moving it into is suitable, the unit will appear in the new world, one space away from where it was before!!!!!

Use this non-cheat wisely.

Here's the other, more well-known non-cheat. Use it if a unit can't exist on another world, or its terrain.
Once you have a city on both the destination and the unit's world, make sure the one on the unit's world can admit the unit. For example, if the unit is a ship, make sure that city is adjacent to the ocean.
Build a spaceport (or astral portal, or whatever) in both cities.
Use "n" when the unit is in its city to bring up the teleport dialog box.
You can send it to ANY city with a spaceport on another world, even if:
It can't be built there
It is a ship and that city is
landlocked
That city is on impassible terrain
and the unit can't pass impassible
terrain
It is a ship or an air unit, which
airlift won't let you send

Enjoy this non-cheat, which you've probably heard of before. As to the previous cheat, you heard it here first!

The way you use these non-cheats is up to you. It may be better not to use them, because others may complain. However, they're good to use if the game is treating you unfairly. Here's an example:

In the Sci-Fi game, you have cities in orbit and on Funestis. In one city on Funestis, you have an Interceptor (air unit, native transport to Orbit, moves 10 squares per turn.) You move it 5 squares in one direction on Funestis, press "n" to send it to Orbit, and move it back 4 towards the city below. You have 1 point left, and want to bring it back to Funestis and move it into the city. However, the teleport order is grayed out. Why? The square below it on Funestis is impassible. This is a stupid rule, but, even if it's an air unit, no unit can teleport if there's impassible terrain below.
What can you do? You can't move it to above the city and then teleport, because you'd run out of fuel, and you can't teleport into a city anyway. You can't move one to the side, teleport, and move into the city, because you'd run out of fuel. So, this is where you'd use the first non-cheat. A noble cause, a noble effect!

So, what do you think?
Fair or unfair?
Would you use it or not?

I don't play TOT, but since you went to all the trouble to write this thread, I'll at least respond since no one else has.

However, they're good to use if the game is treating you unfairly.

Personally, that would not be my own determiner... the game already has built-in disadvantages that it cannot avail itself. The human is going to win the game, it is just a matter of having fun doing it

.

I Civ II, as I learn the "cheats" the AI has, and as I learn the idiosyncracies, I just adapt my future playing style to compensate for what I know is going to occur, rather than try to "game" it in general.

Since I'm totally unfamiliar with Fune-whatever, orbits, teleporting, etc., I'd say to consolidate the post into a single post and place it in a TOT thread, where it has a chance of being seen by more TOT players who can help you (technically, you're in a Civ 2 thread right now).

Is there a way to do that easily?

Actually, my little brother discovered that for me. I find it takes too long to use on a regular basis, so I only use it when I feel it's the game's fault.
