In civ2 the civs of the babylonians, zulus and japanese would never be in the game at the same time...

Will this be the case in civ3...

e.g will it not be possible to select the romans and russians for example in the same game? This CERTAINLY was the case in civ2...I hope this is NOT the case.

I think this will be different because there are refrencs to having 16 civs at one time and from the pick your opponents screen - it seems to show you being able to pick any opponenet

The way to create historic accuracy is not to confine options by color choice. If you don't want the Zulus and Babylonians to meet, you can do one of two things:

1. Design the game such that only ancient empires exist at the beginning. Over the ages, they split in civil wars and change their names, forming modern nation states.

2. Select your computer opponents and include only those from one era.

The first option would be interesting and realistic. It makes the game more like history and less like a long struggle between unchanging empires. However, this will not be implemented, and would probably alienate some conservatives who want civ 3 to be civ 1 with no changes other than a better AI. So, you have a choice of option 2.
