they picked the wrong leader for assyria

Semiramis would be good, but Sargon or Tiglath-Pileser would be better. Ashurbanipal was the second last king before Assyria was crushed, while his actions sent Assyria to its largest expanse, he also sowed the seeds of Assyria's downfall.

A long time ago, I read a book called "The Might that Was Assyria" by H.W.F. Saggs. He's one of my main sources for Assyrian history. He wasn't a fan of Assyria. He tends to believe that Ashurbanipal's cruelty was more sadistic (while previous rulers did it strategically), which helped bring about their downfall. He also attributed the Library to superstition (belief that the words on the tablets had magic properties). Still, he had to devote quite a bit of time to this one leader, which, to me helps illustrate his fame and generally accepted noteworthiness in Assyrian history.

I think that the artwork is superb. For me, Ashurbanipal is the right leader; in fact, it reminds me of Drift's Civ III leaderhead which inspired me to mod ;).

I convinced him to make that leaderhead, so I feel even more proud. Unfortunately, it's original purpose was never fulfilled (the previously mentioned Assyrian Conquest scenario, which hit a brick wall with the tech tree), but the leaderhead was quite cool and I'm glad there were other indirect benefits.

Quick Faq:

1. Q: Why put her in over that other derp.
A: Boobs

Q. Why put Ashurbanipal in over a female leader?
A. Seriously, have you seen the guy's muscles? Phwoar.

They should have picked Semiramis

Reasons why
1. Female leader
2. Enormous amount of folklore surrounding her
3. First person to murder someone through poisoning slowly
4. Invented the chastity belt

to sum it up, she like Assyrian assassin queen. If she's your friend she's a rose, but if you make her angry you will learn she also has thorns.

Semiarmis was a fictionalization of a historical figure (who was much less notable than the fictionalized version). That would not be appropriate for Civ. Gilgamesh being in Civ IV and Dido being in Civ V already makes me shake my head.

I'm fine with both Gil and Dido, albeit for my own special reasons

1. Gil. If you ever player Fate/Stay Night or watched the anime, or watch the anime Fate/Zero, you would have met Gilgimesh. As it turns out since Gilgimesh is the oldest hero ever, he's also the strongest super hero ever. He is complete hax, sorta like that guy in a fighting game that wins by spamming one move over and over again. It's sorta an inside joke between me and my friend, since he can beat nearly anyway the same way

2. Didn't know about her until the game. But lets face it, Carthage is better than Rome. Carthage is all about enormous elephants. Add in the sexy queen and her beautiful language and we have a winner. Hannabal doesn't fit anyways since he wasn't ever a kiing. Beside he is sorta represented as the free great general they get early on.

Carthage is by far my favorite civ and is most likely who i'll play first in BNW. Even if their UU stink....

Why should a leader have to be a king though? Gandhi was never President of India.
