on a P2 450 no less :(

My top ten..

10. Pick stuff out of my belly button.
9. Ponder the fact that my belly button appears to reside at the bottom of an ever deepening hole in an ever expanding tummy.
8. Speculate on whether I have more chest hair lately or does it just look that way.
7. Wonder how women really feel about chest hair.
6. Notice the creak of my desk chair.
5. Notice that my desk chair seems awfully hard.
4. Notice that my butt is sore.
3. Discover stack of unpaid bills on my desk.
2. Play the messages on my answering machine, mostly from irate creditors.
1. Recollect sex.

Dang! When did you tak over my life? I ponder things like... Why do they call them apartments when they are all stuck together? or Why does Hawaii have an interstate highway? or Why do shipments go by land and cargo goes on a ship?..... Ow, my head hurts!

5. stare
4. make top 10 lists
3. read civfanatics and apolyton
2. chat on the internet
1. watch tv/do homework

EDIT: oh yeah, athlon 700, 256MB RAM -- its slooooooow 8(

5: eat
4: drink
3: pissing and ****ting
2: eat again
1: drink again

for some of the more nervous Rulers you might include smoking and even using drugs...

Actually,
if you´re any good at surfing, you can see me do all this while waiting inbetween playing, since my webcam is 'on'...

Why not just stick to huge or standard maps? :)

huge maps are the problem. you mean just large. ;)

problem is, even on large, late game, even with my athlon 700 and 256 MB of RAM, the computer still takes up to a minute per turn...sometimes less, soemtime more

Seeing discussions like this has saved me a lot of money. I was planning to upgrade my processor because Civ3 games were getting too damn slow on the big maps. Now I see that throwing more memory or processing power at the probelm won't make it go away, so I won't bother.

Err... My tounge slipped. Or rather my fingers. Or my mind. Anyway, thanks for setting it right, Cephyn. :)

I never, NEVER play above standard size maps. And on standard maps I always choose to just have 4 rival civs. Any more and from the middle ages onwards the waits between turns just really puts me off playing any more. I am actually beginning to have some real fun playing on small and tiny size maps, it makes for a fast-paced and more exciting game, in my opinion......;)

10. Fix a snack (been doing too much of that lately)
9. Sort the mail I've been neglecting so I could play more Civ
8. Do some chores I've been neglecting so I could play more Civ
7. Annoy my wife
6. There is no item six
5. Stare blankly at the screen, in a vaguely hypnotic trance
4. Take a bathroom break.
3. Read a book, magazine, or comic book, depending on how mature I feel :scan:
2. Ponder the nature of the universe
1. Repeat item 5

I once played a tiny map with 16 civs on a insanely fast tech level (i.e. I finish the tech tree with a few hundered turns to spare) and haven't played anything else since! The conquest is lots of fun becase there is not enough space for restarts if you destroy a civ early on.

I mostly play on standard maps, so it doesn't take more then 30-60 seconds per turn. However, I have been reading Tuchman's March of Folly.

I usually can get through a few chapters of War and Peace between turns of Civ III.

Hmmm. . . maybe I can play Civ II while waiting for Civ III. I actually ENJOYED Civ II.

What I find interesting is the number of people who play Civ III who claim that they don't actually enjoy it. Is there some sort of Civ III slave camp where people are forced to play for hour after hour?

I agree with you, all i can say is thank goodness im not in one of those civ3 slave camps, i prefer playin on my own iniciative. I dont get why ppl play games if they dont like them, just shelf the game playing it again and again wont make it better, you'll just get used to it and like it :).

Well to get on topic now,

I usualy just sit staring at the screen listening to the radio. occasionaly getting up to go to the washroom or grab a snack.

Zachriel, that is the only post I have ever read in here that actually made me laugh out loud. -L-

*imagines poor desperate people being horse-whipped as they frantically try to research the wheel before the babylonians*
