"This folder is empty"

GAH! i bought the download for civ iv and bts. i love the games and everything was going great (except some weird black blotches on the LH's). then i wanted to start modding, i was going through kael's awesome tutorials when i realized, THERE ARE NO FILES IN MY FOLDERS! how can i run the game perfectly with no files! basically, my bts folder is like this:
assets - assets0.fpk, assets1.fpk, assets2.fpk, and assets3.fpk (these are all folder btw)
custom assets - all the folders like xml are in here. but no files are in those folders!
i'll spare you the other folders cause its all the same, folder - folder - no file.
the only one that i have a suspicion about is the logs folder. in there lies three documents, xml, init and resmgr. all three are text documents. i have no clue how to unpack them. also, i downloaded pakbuild for the .fpk's but i have no clue how to work it.
i really want to mod, but i am currently stuck!
any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

which folders are you looking at?
what operating system is this?

im on vista (i know...) and im looking at my games> beyond the sword> assets, custom assets, etc.

they are supposed to be empty - unless you put something in them...
you need to look for the files in \program files\ or \program file (x86)\
then copy them to the custom assets folder and play with the copies
