I am tired of the AI always encroaching on my borders. I don't mind them having expansive empires like me, but when they build a city one tile from my sphere of influence, and then it lowers my sphere because the 9 tiles the city has got must have a sphere of influence (I tried this, too on a German city with an influence of 1. His 9 tiles remained the way it would, but if I placed my city 1 tile away from his city's influence, that city would still have 9 tiles and I'd have less), which I believe is crap. I mean, why is it like that when I had controlled that part of land in the first place (Not actually working it, too far from the city. Controlling it as in having it in the sphere of influence)

Firaxis should really fix this settler diarrhea crap soon. In, like, the next patch. Because it was even happening during v1.07

Indeed so.

Settler Diarrhea has plagued us all since this beta game first appeared in November for $50 big ones. It is illogical, unrealistic, and a pain in the rear.

I am also BORED with always having to mop up the AI's pathetic little towns scattered all over before I begin my invasion of his main territory. If I don't, wandering units from them can be a minor irritation staggering around my territory like inebriated drunks.

Firaxis has so far refused to fix it, just as they refuse to fix the other most ridiculous feature of the game - Culture Flipping.

Oh yes, individual towns and borders IN CRUCIAL LOCATIONS have flipped DESPITE my having Culture many times that of my rival. It is bullbleep.

Crowding is an important strategy. Check out my current game (standard pangaea, wet, raging)

Might I suggest playing a position and replaying it several times, so you can find the optimum expansion for that position. Then try another game. If you do this a few times, it should be easier to anticipate the best expansion for a given map.

There is a difference between crowding and just plain idiocy. Crowding is placing a little town near important locations and hoping that it wiill rise out on top. Idiocy is placing a city 4 tiles away the enemy's size 15 city.

Look at the map again, and pretend you are America and the AI places a town where indicated. What do you think now?

Here is how the cultural border works.

(1) The city with the shorter expansion level always gets the tile.

(2) If it is of the same expansion level, the one with higher culture gets the tile. This works even if you are 2 tile away from the other city, meaining if you are really really mean, it is possible take away 8 of the 9 default tiles a city gets.

"inebriated drunks"?

I never see "sober" drunks in my territories. Unless I move a military unit on top of them. In that instant, the pain sobers them up.....
