thoughts on spaceships

Just completed my first game on king level; tried to play as a power democracy with lots of $ and production. At the end I was tired and simply wanted to get to alpha centari ASAP, war is draining. Any thoughts on building a fast spaceship, quickly. or should I build the whole thing out of all possible components, structures and modules.

33 structural, 4 solar, 8 fuel 8 propulsion, 1 habitation 1 life support is the smallest possible with 100% of the points

Actually, a spaceship with 33 Structural, 8 Fuel, 8 Propulsion, 1 Habitation, 1 Life Support, and 1 Solar Panel is the fastest spaceship, taking only 5.7 years, whereas the previously described spaceship will take 7.6 years. I tend to build the fastest possible spaceship.

ahh, ive never tried with less than 4 solar panels
if you have less panels then you will need less structurals, dont know how many less though

How to figure exact landing year:

1. Truncate the fractional part of the # of years.
2. Add result to the launch year.
3. The SS will land at the very beginning of result.
4. No growth, gold, etc. will accumulate in the landing year (only peace bonus).



When do you have "enough" structurals?

1. Make your Modules & Components.
2. Add structurals beyond 15 as long as you get the asterisk:

Structural: 15* =not enough
Structural: 15 =enough


How to accelerate constuction time?

1. Start a Wonder.
2. Deliver freight.
3. Switch to desired SS part.

I only built one once - i tend to go for victory by conquest - and i put max number of everything on it. When it got to AC nothing happened except i got a message saying it had landed - I had been told that the game restarts on Ac with you conquering THAT planet next - true?

That only happens in the Test of Time version of Civ 2.

You can play Alpha Centauri of course (SMAC), if you want to start off from there but "normal" games of civ just stop once your SS has arrived.
