Tile improvement?

howdy

should i be improving tiles with farms and mines and such as fast as i can. or should i wait for an unemployed citizen before improving a tile.

roads are tough. how can i tell if i can afford a road. is it production that a road eats up?

I improve special resource tiles first, then other tiles. It's good to have more tiles improved, because if you switch your city focus, it's always better to work an improved tile.

Roads "eat" your gold, connecting cities with your capital establishes a trade route that gives you gold. So you basically want to connect all your cities with your capital with as few roads as possible.
