Sorry if this has been discussed earlier, but since the patch, I noticed that many more tiles have resources on them, whether I set the option for Strategic Balance or Standard.

Below is a Standard map size, Sandstorm, Standard Resources

That's fairly rare on standard resources lol.

I think that's partly to balance out that not all luxury resources are created equal. Things like ivory/gold/marble have significant extra bonuses, while a lot of the plantation resources are pretty much just an extra gold or two. So the "bonus" for them is that you tend to get bigger clusters of them that you can trade away.

That's a particularly big cluster though!

I have never seen this before after 640 hours of play maybe i'm just really unlucky... Actually after watching madijins diety rome game i have never seen so many ivory & silver all over the damn place. Has something changed with standard? or am i just really unlucky...

I know marble has the +15% wonder production bonus, but I don't think ivory and gold are any better (or worse) than the other luxuries otherwise. The game updates page on Steam tells me that Gems, Gold, Silver, Marble used to have one more gold each, but no longer.

That and in real life it's very likely that Gold and other minerals would be rare while crops are common.

Ivory lets you build a circus for extra happiness, gold and silver let you build a mint for extra gold.

Gold and silver give more gold via a mint. Ivory allows the city to build a circus. Monestries are able to be built with wine or incense (my favorite with piety). Marble gives 15% more production for wonders.

I've never seen such a close clumping of resources, with 4 of them lumped together. They do come in batches, but in the many hours I've played, I've never seen anything close to that.

I'm fairly sure it depends on map options as well. The amount of luxury resources seems to depend on the amount of players on the map in my experience, so if you play a small map with lots of players/ai's there will be more resources to compensate for it.

This. Ivory, gold, silver and marble are always single luxuries in my experince. Stone I've seen in duos next to each other and cotton and wine in clusters of 6. Having six nearby is rare indeed, but hey, Egyptian cotton has good properties :)

Quite possible. I generally add more AI's to a map to compress it a little.

I always try to play with resources set to "sparse". I tend to be a builder and don't go to war that often. However, with sparse resources it helps to force my hand. It also gives more value to fast moving units that can rush in and destroy the AI resource making their units less effective. If everyone has 50 iron (for example) that isn't as useful.

In my current game I settled my fourth city in a place that covered 4 Gold (all next to each other), 3 Fish, 1 Stone, 1 Deer and 1 Sheep. I just missed out on including another Sheep, but that was compensated by Aluminum popping up under the city itself.
