Top Down View

[Reapman]

Ok, major Noob alert I'm sure... but somehow, while playing, I've reset the view instead of the default view, to a top down style view.. did'nt change the zoom or anything.. I hit some keys to fast, and I don't know what I did

I've googled, searched as best I could for an answer, but am totally lost. Yes also checked the manual... I might be blind, I'm definitly a noob, can someone point me in the right direction? Please? This view really bugs the heck outa me

Press F11.

F11 just zooms me from standard view to the "globe" view... here's a link to a screenshot, maybe it'll explain it better then I can with words

Have you tried using the page up and down keys to angle your view? Try that.

Yup :-( Tried with Ctrl, Alt, Shift, also with the arrow keys. Home, End, Insert, Delete.. I'm sure this is documented somewhere, but gah it annoys me. No matter what zoom level I'm in, it's always top down.

When I am zoomed out at a certain amount it autos "top down" view.

And the picture you show is fairly zoomed out. What happens if you zoom in more?

Actually that's the full zoom in... it's only displaying 6 grids... however, I tried the old standby... reboot, and it seems to ahve gone back to the isometric view. I'd still like to know how you change to that (I could see it being useful once in awhile) but not be stuck in it

You probably hit Alt-F ... I think that's it at least, I'm at work so I can't check my keyboard cutout. But try it and let me know if that works.

I've had this happen too - I have no idea why. It doesn't appear to correlate with anything I did, and it seems to fix itself a few turns later. I figured I would get around to learning the camera controls eventually.

yeah alt-f switches between "satellite" (top-down) view and normal isometric view. I'm surprised it's not even listed on the keyboard layout fold-out thing that I got with the special edition, I discovered it by accident

Yup, that was it, thanks for the insight... i must have tried everything BUT Alt-F lol... hope they fix that in future editions with the manual.
