Tried everything, but still crashes

I have beyond the sword patched up to 3.19 and I've installed the full Final mod with patch c. I can't get Fall from heaven to work. When trying to launch the game (tried both from shortcut and by activating mod from the game) I get an error message saying the application has encountered an error and needs to be shut down.

I've been reading the forums here for about 2 hours now trying to find a solution and I've tried everything I could find but I still have the same problem.

Please there has to be someone out there who knows how to fix this.

Oh and btw: I'm not the most technical person when it comes to computer terms so please give easy and detailed step by step instructions.

I'm not strong technically either, but I'll ask some of the basics and maybe somebody who knows what he is doing can help.

What operating system do you use, Vista or XPs? Does BtS run smoothly? Can your computer handle the tech requirements (video, etc.)

Did the installation go smoothly? Did it complete? At what point does the crash occur?

Yes Computer is good enough to handle the game.
Installation ran as it should and completed. Even reinstalled to be sure.
The crash occurs instantly as soon as I've pressed the shortcut or loaded the mod.

Ok, are you sure that patch C was properly loaded? Maybe you should try patch D.

You can check the readme file in your FfH II directory, the second line will say which version you have. (The file is somewhere like c:\programs\firaxis games\Civ IV\Bts\Mods\Fall from Heaven II\readme.rtf)

And patch c is the latest patch I found. It's the one from here. No sight of any D patch

Patch D fixes a problem if playing with a unique race; it looks like you are getting problems before that point, but it may be a good idea to patch to it anyway. You can go to:

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=308020 onthe first page to get patch D.

I know there was a problem with the installer for FfH II. Have you installed it recently? If you have, I can probably send you to one of the threads that answered that problem.

Yes I installed it the sme day I posted about the problem.

Installing patch d did not fix the issue.

It's so annoying I really want to play this I love the whole fantasy theme

This problem isn't related to the unique race crash fixed by patch D. That crash occurs after the mod has launched successfully.

I know you said that you are patched to v3.19, but the problem you are describing matches what happens when you attempt to launch a 3.19-compatible version of the Mod using Civ4 v3.17. It is possible that the v3.19 patch did not install successfully. Check what version you are using like this: launch BtS, at the main menu choose "ADVANCED", then choose "ABOUT THIS BUILD"; the line "Civ Version" in the "About Beyond the Sword" window that opens will tell you the version. If it says "319" then v3.19 is installed successfully. If it says "317" then you are still using v3.17 and should reapply the patch for v3.19, which is available from the Firaxis Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Beyond The Sword Patches page.

If you are in fact running v3.19 then the Mod may not be installed correctly. I would suggest that you delete your "Fall from Heaven 2" folder and the installer you used, redownload the latest installer, and reinstall the Mod.

ok seems my Beyond the sword was still on v17.

I downloaded v.19 from the link you provided but I can't install it for some reason.

I click the setupfile and it launches ok but after getting to the part where you install and pressing that button the install just shuts down and nothing happens

Do you have the game on physical media (Civ4 + BtS, or Civ4 Complete), or did you buy a direct download version (Steam, D2D, et c.)? Apparently some or all of the direct download versions require you to patch the game using special versions that you get from the download provider. The patch from the Firaxis site won't work in that situation.

I have no idea actually. got the game from a friend who I lost contact with after my cell phone broke. He gave it to me so we could lan. This was a while ago can't remember exactly when. So I have no idea if he got the original game in box or from download though I think he has it from a box...

I tried looking for alternate patches but I only find the same one from different providers. Nothing where I either manually put the patch where it's supåposed to go or a different patch installer.

Guess I'll just have to either hope for my friend to contact me so he can send me a patched verion or wait 6 month untill I can afford to buy my own copy (If it's actually still buyable by then)

Civ4 Complete has been released only recently, and since the game was installed a while ago you probably have an older version. Before Civ4 Complete was released the game required a CD to play, unless it was a digital download version. In order to play the digital versions of the game you have to have a special interface installed on your system (because the validity of the license is checked online), so if you had a digital version you would probably know which one you had. Therefore your friend probably installed the game from physical media, and since you don't have the CD but are able to launch the game it is likely that some sort of hack was applied.

It sounds to me like that hack is preventing the v3.19 patch from applying correctly. The best solution would be to get a legal copy of the game. I'm confident that even in six months there will be copies of Civ4 Complete available for purchase.
