trouble uninstalling this game

I've been having lots of computer problems, and it wouldn't let me run Civ4 (even though it used to work fine). So I tried uninstalling it (the only way to do this is through Add/Remove Programs, right?) and I got an error... so I googled how to uninstall it manually, followed all the instructions, and then tried to reinstall and it said a previous version is already installed and it needs to be uninstalled first. I double checked EVERYTHING and I cannot find any more civ4 files on my computer. But it still won't let me install... PLEASE HELP!
