TSG107 After Action

Won diplo at T266, but I do not remember much

Settled in place, then 2 more cities to SW. I couldn't find a good spot for the fourth, which meant I was lacking science mid-to-end game game.

Went Tradition, Patronage (4), Rationalism, Freedom (arsenal of freedom and influence for trade routes), Finished Patronage and then some random policies like commerce opener and others.

Wonder spammed. Beelined science techs. Religion from Stonehenge and Lhasa. Lots of culture from city states.

Won fair and games as first 2 proposals, but couldn't manage to bulb everything, so culture from wonders encted as well. Then I bulbed all the necessaty policies quite easily and then just waited for 17 turns until I am voted the leader. Maybe I could have done better, but I think I lacked science for that..

Wiped out celts just for fun and freed the last city state from Shoshone. Got 48 votes with diplomats finally.

Got the good old Oracle at renaissance combo on turn 120ish then sent my 2 scouts and caravel meet everybody. Meanwhile I produced 6 archers very quickly (because it's a cheap unit) and a pikeman. After reaching Machinery around T125-130 I attacked people on my own continent and will end up razing everyone with crossbows.

Meanwhile I tech Navigation and after seeing Japan coastal empire I upgrade 4 galleas and go there. I produce a second crossbow army for that continent. Thankfully Japan already razed a few Siam cities so this made razing Siam really easy. I will end up razing Japan and Siam on that continent.

Not being very confident in my tech rate I aim for a T160+ printing press in order to reach Atomic era before T200ish. I get it on turn T160 and manage to kill 5 civs and reach atomic era before the deadline. I picked Freedom as I didn't believe I would reach Tier 3 on Ideology (free GS) and didn't want to be in a no coal situation with order. I finished Rationalism with which I took Plastics and bought a Great scientist for the last 2 costly tech I needed for reaching atomic era.

- Did you use your Musketeer?
No. Conquests were made with crossbows and Frigates
- Did you use spying to your advantage?
I usually use my spies to coup CSs but almost no AI were allied with CSs.
- Did the map type help or hinder victory and how?
Hinder a little... killing someone on another continent can be dicey.
- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions?
Razing 5 civs is the way to go on Emperor, also wonders are very easy to get
- Was Faith helpful to achieve victory? How?
Just bought a GS near the end
- Did you utilize your Chateau? How?
No. It's mostly a culture victory building which wasn't the required VC...

I just finished this one. It was fun, but I didn't focus enough on science. Diplomatic victory in 402 turns (won on the first ballot with votes to spare.) It was triggered when I researched Satellites. Then I "just one more turn"ed for about 12 turns to unlock the "Pyramid Scheme" achievement. Also, "arts funding" passed on the 2nd world congress and it was never repealed, so that cut into my GS budget quite a bit (but it also hurt everyone else's GS's)

Oddly, Siam was friendly to me in the late game even tho' I was a warmonger. Usually, Rammy and I take an instant dislike to each other. Japan and Shoshone didn't like me, (especially Japan) I think because they recognized that I was a threat. Morocco died pretty early, attacked by both Shoshone and Japan. I resurrected them after I won the diplomatic victory and kept going.

- Did you use your Musketeer?
I built a ton of them. I was hoping to get the Three Musketeers achievement, but all they killed was cities. I bribed Boudicca to cripple Byzantines and Assyria, then eventually i declared war on the Celts and all but wiped them out (left them one pathetic city.) Unfortunately the world congress formed one turn before I captured Edinburgh, so everyone on the other continent was suspicious of me for a while -- but I gave them free salt and then most of them loved me.

- Did you use spying to your advantage?
Of course, but it was not really significant. I put one counterspy in Paris, and the rest were in city states. Never attempted a coup; didn't have to. Later, I put diplomats in AI capitals for the ideological pressure.

- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions?
Emperor is the highest level that I'm comfortable with. It's high enough that I didn't attempt Great Library, but other than that I'm not sure it affected much. I play more warmonger-y at Emperor than I do at Prince and King, so subconsciously it probably affected that.

- Was Faith helpful to achieve victory? How?
GPT from tithe, extra hammers from whatever that extra hammer belief is, and I fulfilled a few CS quests to spread my religion.

- Did you utilize your Chateau? How?
I don't remember when the last time was that I played France; and it might have been vanilla. Chateaux are awesome! I built a bunch of them; helped me power thru 3 full policy trees, 2 half-trees, and 6 in Freedom.
