Second Diety game ever for me (I played a practice game with the settings and was overrun by Shaka and his allied CS (never saw CS taking multiple cities..!) Taught me to at least try to keep the defense up...) Normally play Immortal, so not that huge a leap.

Founded Capital on coastal hill below copper and
2nd settler on the copper at the river confluence west (whoops, forward settling on Assyria...but they don't seem unhappy about it...)

Went normal science approach (e.g. Scientific Theory), 4 city Tradition, then Rationalism. I played with the Commerce opener idea in the practice game but I found culture hard going to complete Tradition afterward... Spy on Dido for some top-row water science but she eventually catches me at it.

215 Susa on the coast by the coppers (one turn after Pacal settles 4 tiles NE...)
232 Ecbatana inland on the river 4 tiles east of Susa
253 Porcelain Tower (delayed because no one had opened Rationalism!)

2nd city is the culture hub; I burn all the writers and artists for culture and golden ages, thinking this will all end before anyone can run a full culture victory. Susa is my military hub, although I don't build barracks + (probably not a good idea). I know from the practice game that if it comes, it will be bad.

By that point was friends with (almost) everyone, but Assyria and Dido went Autocracy and everyone except weak Brazil (and later China) went Order, so since I missed being first I joined the Order gang since they were stronger and safer allies (including Maya, who are also right on my doorstep...)

And then The War (finally) happened. Both Assyria and Dido DOW (294). Now, Carthage is not really close... but they do have Mogadishu, Malacca, and she and Assyria even play with Vancouver and Byblos for a while but frankly several of those are well liked by my friends and change hands several times during The War. Mogadishu is the only one that become a real threat to me that I need to place a defense force. I have Portugal and Brazil DOW Dido to keep her busy, and figure I'll focus on Assyria. I start burning the few GS I have on weapon tech that is needed for space victory anyway. I have plastics and was headed to satellites anyway. I soon have machine guns, infantry, bombers. fighters, and rocket artillery. Thank goodness for the abundant aluminum!! (NO COAL!!!?!?!?!?) Also not much oil for the war (last oil tile came in after the war's end)

P.S. By the end of the game, Dido is at war with EVERYONE at the same time, except Assyria...

I need to practice domination more. I made several stupid errors-- most importantly, not building railroad infrastructure into my front line on Assur, with all the forests and hills. Now I wonk Assyria down until they are literally 8th place in military, but he WONT DISCUSS PEACE! So I go on from defense to offense to just take Assur, although I don't do it very efficiently. Dido sends one machine gun at me (finally), and I get some bombers at me from Malacca, but once I put up some air defense they all die and stop coming.

318 captured Assur. FINALLY Assyria agrees we might want to stop fighting after 24 turns, and so does Dido (who as I said, now has literally 5 other wars going on...)

Finally switch back to the turtling science game. As others have said, I overshoot...in fact, I grab satellites and de-science the capital to focus only on production of Hubble (NO COAL...No Factories!)

Get Hubble. Build parts in all cities while every other civ is also building parts...count count...it is now a world-wide parts race...Portugal is only one part away... I have only the last module...I can't redirect any caravans to production boosting.... white knuckling down to the last part... Portugal? or me? Portugal? or me?

Yay, me. First diety win (if, not a normal diety game!) Fun. Probably had it easier because of the late start...
