This morning I decided to start up a new game.

Large - Pangaea
Deity
Standard Time
10 Civs & 20 City States
One City Challenge
Random Leader
Random Leader Personalities

So I get the Romans so the UA is wasted but I can deal with that.

After taking a look around I settled Rome on top of some Deer and begin building a Scout.

The turns go by fairly quickly and I run into good old Bismarck who off to the east and Suleiman who is off to the west. The City State of Warsaw is to the south.

Things were going okay until turn 23 when right after my Scout finished off a Barbie Brute on the Border of Germany.

Bismarck pops up and tells me that he does not like me very much. Right after that Suleiman comes in and tells me that he was always planning on destroying me.

So they both declare war on me. Bismarck jumps my Scouts and destroys them. So I begin building another Warrior this would bring me to three and began researching curve pieces of wood with strings attached.

The good thing is that I am up on a spit of land that has mountains on the southern border and two passes into it one on the east & the other on the west.

Warsaw got involved so I think I know where I am going to get some workers since I will need to build some more military units.

I plan only to defend in this game.

Only time will tell just how long I will last.

I would guess not? They will outtech you and overwhelm your defenses!

Maybe, but we are talking about The AI here.

I had two of my Warriors who were in the process of taking out a Barbie Camp and had taken some damage.

I was down to 2-4 in each unit and a German Scout did not take advantage of that.

You forgot to add in that they will build more cities and out produce you.

Oh and lets not forget that the game will decide not to give you any horses or Iron anywhere near your one City. Which is a huge thing since without these you can forget about having the ability to build a good military.

Germany must have built 10 or more cities and about turn 160 he finally took me out.

But he paid dearly for it. I was able to make a deal with Darius and he did give me 1 Iron which I created one Legion.

I must have destroyed around 30 or more of his units.

All I can say is that I lasted longer than several other unknown Civ's who lost their Capitals long before mine.

If you can survive until you get artillery I think you might even stand a chance of winning. Artillery beats everything except for helicopters and riflemen on citadels can defend even against modern units.

Oh I had a Citadel which is why I lasted as long as I did.

My Legion was still in command of it at the end.

But when you get no Iron or Horses that you can use within your one city only radius you are struck with using Spearman which just does not cut it against the German version of the Pikeman.

Plus once he got the ability to cross water he went around my heavily defend frontline.

Then it was only a matter of time.
