Turn 94 - 690 B.C.

It might be wise for someone to get in touch with Apolytonia concerning the "capture" of the last Elucidian town. If Gamecatcher manages to get to that city first, they could flank our position and send armies from either the north or the east....

Build a city where the settler lies in the map inn 690BC. That is, directly SW of the inscence that is hooked up by roads. It is a dense build, but we really need that. We need to get away from our full 21 tile cities from the vanilla Demogames, and start using our land better.

I can assure you now. we DO NOT want 50% of our land being disused until we can get hospitals. Why, in my games, most cities never even reach size 15. 90% of my cities never grow over 12 population, and I have the highest population and productivity in demographics.

Establishing a city in it's current location would not accomplish much. Any unit stationed there would still require 2 turns to reach Shen Ling and there's nothing in the immediate area as far as workable terrain (other than the forest near Jiang Mapi).

If we are going to go for the tight build, I'd suggest building the town due S of it's current location (although this would still interfere primarily with Jiang Mapi's ability to produce units as well as infringe on Shen Ling's productive radius - requiring constant micromanagement of those tiles).

While I believe a tighter build is something for us to strongly consider to the east of Shen Ling (where the grasslands and hills provide good, workable terrain), I don't see the need in the desert wastelands NW of Shen Ling. I'd build it NE-NE of it's current location, taking advantage of both incense tiles.

Also, might I suggest that we send the warrior escort back to Shen Ling immediately and send the spearman currently stationed there out to escort the settler and defend that new town. Sending that warrior to Shen Ling will allow us to upgrade him to a Swordsman as soon as he arrives - thanks to our recent fiscal boon.

Oh... and if it hasn't already been done... we need to build a mine on that second fur tile outside of Zhi Gang to turn that into a 2f-2s-2c tile.

I'm tempted to agree with Gingerbread Man. Placing the settler right were he is will give us access to incense right away, a very vital luxury. With it, we could let Shen Ling grow more, and thus allow it to pump out swords at a faster rate.

At either site, the combination of plains and desert will mean that this city won't grow for a very long time. I'd just go ahead and found it right there.

Not me, I agree with all three of 40J's suggestions. Move the Settler 2 tiles to the NE and plant a city at the end of the road, right between the two incenses.

Move the Warrior back to Shen Ling to be upgraded.

Build the mine.

Good eye, 40J.

EDIT That tile is all ready 2f/2s/2g. No need to mine.

Ah, that would be my mistake. I misunderstood FortyJ. NE-NE sounds fine to me.

Cyc, that warrior went up there to defend against barbarians that were then nearby. We'll just keep our elite horseman in the area and return the warrior, and I think we'll be fine defensively.

We still have not yet built a road on the hill due west of Yun Quiling. I consider this critical for the defense of that town as GCA will likely attempt to dislodge us from there.

Our current road network in that region is nightmarish in terms of defense but can be corrected easily by building this new road. As it currently stands, Yun Quiling is 3 tiles away from Jiang Mapi - a convenient single turn of movement in case we needed to reinforce that town.

However, since the road crosses the river where it does, not only does it require 2 turns to reach Yun Quiling from Jiang Mapi, we have a vulnerable section of road that GCA could pillage, effectively disconnecting the entire nation from our iron. If we were to build a road on the west bank of the river, then we could defend that road better (GCA would have to attack a hill, across the river...).
