Two Conquests Editor Problems

Hoping someone can help me out here with these problems that I've been having with the editor since I reinstalled.

The first is an error I get when starting the editor that says:

"Error: Could not open file for reading"

I understand this can occur in two situations: 1. if the .biq file in question is already open by another application (which it isn't), or 2. if you run out of diskspace (which is also not the case). I've observed that in the conquests subdir of Civ3 that the editor appears to create a 0k file called save0.tmp, but once I click Ok past the error, it kills it, which I assume controls an autosave type of functionality in case of crashes. I can live without this functionality, but I'm wondering if there's something else that might be affected by this?

The second problem is within the editor itself, which initially I thought was related to not being able to read some file somewhere due to the above error, but I'm starting to suspect it's caused by something else which I believe may be related to some weirdness when I patched up to 1.22 (see below).

Basically, when I go to edit unit parameters, once I hit the Enkidu Warrior or further down the list, the unit icon in the top left shows a blank pink background (which I believe is just a blank transparency?), and when I try to select another unit type, I get the following error:

"Please enter an integer between 0 and 167."

It's referring to the Icon number, also in the top left. Basically any unit icon reference higher than 167 won't be accepted. In-game the icons are fine, so I'm thinking the editor either isn't reading the right units_32.pcx info, or it's related in some way to the other error above regarding not being able to open a file for reading.

Also of note (as it may be relevant, I don't know), when I went to update to 1.22, I got some strangeness during the update process. When I first tried to update, it asked me if I wanted to uninstall but made no reference as to what. The first time through, I cancelled, not wanting to uninstall Civ3 again, and checked a few things. Having no other option, I clicked continue and it quickly did *something*, though I have no idea what. I ran the update again, and this time it appeared to update normally. I don't know if this might have any bearing on my situation, but I thought I should mention it, as I don't recall this ever happening before during previous installs of Civ3 and patching.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I'm thinking about doing a mod, and a fully functional editor is kind of essential for that ;) Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't offer anything definitive, but I have had the problem "could not open the file for editing before, and I just click "OK" and it carries-on quite happily. I believe I get it when I have two copies of the editor running (which I guess makes sense, because it may only have one temp file).

I have this problem also. The root of it is that the editor is automatically defaulting to a mod terrain and not the standard terrain. HOW do I get the editor to default to the standard terrain? :confused:

DBear: I've found the problem. It looks like the installer for the Warhammer Fantasy mod altered the default install path for Conquests. I had to go and manually change back the entry in the registry to point to the correct dir for Conquests and it now works perfectly. You'll need to find the reg key:

HKLM->Infogrames->Conquests->Install_path

Just change the entry to the root dir of Conquests.
