type 555 file- what is it, and how do I see it

I have a game called ceasar 3- it, as well as other game sint eh city building series are type "555 files"- how do I open these, and more over, dose any one have any idea how I might be able to convert units?

(though just knowing what program I need ot open them would be nice...)
