Ucel1 - Noble Atheist

So, after a long pause I am back to the world of Civ4.
Let's see what do we have here:

Steam Power in 2
UN in Moscow in 8, Lumbermill in 3
I make a deal with Hatsy. I am afraid she's too backward to become our main opponent, so I take Constitution+Map+180 for Chemistry+Liberalism. I prefer to give her Chemistry rather than Repl Parts.
Let see our mighty armies...
IMO, too much cannons, we need more regular troops, but I'll try to fix it
My next two goals await: Timbuktu and Djenne...
Hmm..., artist in Gao? We'll see

<ENTER!>

1) 1785
Murmansk: LH->Court
It was a good decision to trade Const with Hatty, I can see that Asoka and Wash are up Corporation, MM is up Democracy, Corp and Rifling
For now he give us Map, 40G + 11GPT for peace. :lol:
So I move our troops into Malinese territory

2) 1790
IBT: Hatsy came to us asking for a trade. No Hatsy, I am not so good.
MM wants peace. Now only for 30G. Funny guy...
Steam Power ready. I thought about Rifling, but decided fo Communism and State Property. We are just too large :).

Novogrod: Musket->Cossack
Thermopyle: Bank->Grocer

Switched Burgundian to Coloseum, should improve morale in the city. The same with Rostov.

I like it! Traded Physics to Asoka for Rifling+Corp+Map+50G

3) 1795
Orenburg: Bank->Rifle
Seems, that MM plans a desant near by Irkutsk. Can be tough, so upgraded longbow there to the Rifleman
MM_Desant.jpg

Feel the power of our cannons! FIRE!!!
MM_Fire.jpg

Our first cannon died, but took some bastards with
MM_1stDied.jpg

The second one withdrew!
The third one had more that 50% odds and has fallen as well. but then...
Timbuktu_failed.jpg

A little surprise awaits in Djenne:

MM_Djenne_defences.jpg

Only 3 units???

1795 continued
I've just found some frigates in the neighbourhood. Now only two galleons approach Irkutsk :D.

4) 1800
Bad news :(. Irkutsk have been taken. The good news is the city has not been destroyed.
Anasazi: Bank->Coloseum

I have definitelly too little units to take Irkutsk back. After I lost one cossack there (I don't know why I thought the city was defended only by one unit) I'll concentrate to keep our position there and try to bring some reinforcements.
First we take Djenne then we take Berlin, ekhm, meant Irkutsk back.
To complicate MM logistics I decided to activate our bomb in Gao now:

Gao_Bomb.jpg

5) 1802
IBT: Asoka want Map for Map, I said yes
Yaro: Bank->Cossack

WW is growing :(

6) 1804
Yek: Bank->Cossack
Magadan: LH->Theatre
Still bombarding Djenne, our main army is already near by the gates.

7) 1806
IBT: Now Wash wants Map for Map, why not?
Communism->Assembly Line
Novogrod: Cossack->Cossack
New Sparta: Forge->Rifle
Orenburg: Rifle->Rifle

Djenne is now 0% def. Let's see: 10 defenders, from our side 10 attackers+4 free cannons. Looks good!

1st cannon destroyed grenadier and got 6XP for that :O
2nd cannon destroyed rifleman and got 5XP
3rd cannon destroyed grenadier. Do I want to conquer Djenne only with cannons?
The 4th one finishes the combat unscratched.
Look at this:

Djenne_stats.jpg

Collateral damage rocks!
And now, take a look at Djenne, you won't see this city more:

Djenne_LastPic.jpg

Now it's time for Irkutsk

8) 1808
One Pic means more then thousand words:
UN.jpg

Moscow starts Broadway. We need more luxuries!
Anasazi: Colos->Rifle
Novosyb: Bank->Court
Walata: Theatre

The main army is going back to Irkutsk. We can pause that war after taking this city back.
Started Revolution to State Property/Nationhood

9) 1810
After adopting Communism :) We jumped from -21 to +98

I didn't have enough healthy Cossacks, so decided to attack next turn. It will be up to you Thrar.

Ucel1_Power.jpg

As you can see from Power screen MM is no more. We are safe to negotiate the peace after taking our city back. It will also improve our morale: two civs are runnning Emancipation what cumulates with our WW.

Good luck Thrar, before you the election and the first voting.

"next we take Berlin... errr Irkutsk" :lol:

Nice moves. My bad on leaving Irkutsk so light. How does the UN work, when is there a vote?

It seemed like every 4-5 turns from the one diplo game I've played.

I frequently leave cities light as well. Rarely do I encounter enemies that put up much of an offensive although in my last solo game that one bit me in the butt. . .

(0) some stat checks first:
MM dropped big time (1/3) in power from the war, from that I assume there won't be much offensive power left. Stats look awesome, we're #1 in everything except approval (last from WW) and life expectancy. By a large margin usually. Time played is at 75 hours. :o
Hatty offers Silks, which will provide us some nice happiness and a reason for her not to attack us. I give her one of our 4 deer in turn. I didn't check before the deal, now we have two unhappy cities in the core (ie home continent).
City checks: St. Peter has growth turned off - I see no reason and turn it on. Turned on a governor somewhere, but that didn't change anything. Started aquaeduct in Anasazi. Rest seems fine.
Now for the fun part: War!
Check: there's one MM grenadier hidden in the jungle. That makes him defense 18, on top he's combat II - not a good idea to attack there. However...there are 4 healthy cossacks in Gao, and one injured one that might help against the catapults. Chances are 70% for the first battle, the next once should be higher. I'll give it a try.
First cossack wins, down to 11.5.
Next one wins too, although down to 1.8.
one cossack loses. That grenadier's at 1.8.
Damn...one of them had already moved, can't reach Irkutsk. I take down a catapult with an injured one, that's it for today. Move the last full-HP cossack to cover the stack. End of turn.

IBT - the stack gets attacked by that grenadier from the jungle. The aforementioned cossack takes him down.

(1) Irkutsk is ours again! No further losses. Lots of worker and some troop movements. I'm not so sure what our objectives for the war are...on our home continent there's an idle settler, I'll send him over to build a city in the empty space.

open_ground.jpg

(2) UN election for secretary general. We need 291 votes, have 270 on our own.

IBT - Caesar offers map for map. Ok, fine.

(3) We're secretary general. Got the votes from Caesar, Asoka and Washington; 523 of 742 total.
At home, I decided to make Orenburg the main ferry terminal, all galleons are sent there, also all newly produced military units.
George has started to found new cities in the open terrain. Two of our settlers just arrived at the port.

(4) Samara founded on the open ground. Another city will be founded next turn, the settler is in place. Note the funny looking blue men on the hill, they have a settler with them. If he builds on one of the road locations, we won't have space for the second city.

Samara.jpg

(5) Hatty enters a golden age. Washington has not founded another city, so now we get it. Strange name.

Archangel.jpg

Hatty's got some wheat for us. We don't need it badly, but it's another reason for her not to go to war. I give her some sheep. Since she has a lot of money (13gpt) I sell her corn for the whole 13.

IBT - Hatty demands we cancel our deals with the Romans. You wish...

(6) A vote comes up. We need 469 votes for victory. If we get the same result as for secretary general, that's it. Our opponent is Hatty.

(7) Assembly Line finished. Before I can select the next tech:

Total time: 76:27.

United Nations council:

lots of tough paperwork ahead for Cathy I guess...

Demographics:

note that we got back up to 2nd in approval, was 6th in turn 0. I think it's due to the Hatty trades, I didn't do anything else about it.

nice drops in power from Alex and now MM. Good work!

Our final score. Not too overwhelming, but that's not what counts!

I wonder if I will forget to attach the save one last time...it's supposed to be here:

I remembered the save! :) Just download and click end of turn. There are some units left to move, but that doesn't matter. I had to replay the last 2 turns, because I didn't save after the vote.

So, I was back just in time to grab the victory in my turnset. :) Thank you all for the game, at this point it didn't feel like my game any more, but I remember building up the core in the main continent, and eliminating the greeks, that was fun! In fact this is my first diplo victory, typically I don't have the patience to treat everyone nicely... :satan:

Have fun all, maybe we meet again in another game! Thank you!

Yes, great game of everybody.
It is not my first diplo victory, but surely the fastest one. And the easiest one as well - normally I had to play conquest UN or "winning the votes".

Once again thank you all and you're more than welcome in my other games.

That is my first diplo victory too, even though I only played one turn :D

Loved the power graph, can't help wondering if we would have had to conquest before time ran out... I think yes the way were progressing against MM!
