It was FFA, no house rule MP. I've encountered unescorted settler in 3-4 games.
Well, I immediately dow'd and steal it. And the guy becomes really salty(I can understand it).
And the guy ragequit after further push with more armies in most cases, and game becomes over after few quitting. Feels bit sorry but I never send settler unescorted, even losing 1 or 2 turns to move units for escorting.

I am wondering what you would do if you find unescorted settler when scouting.
The same as me? or Let them get escort in next turn and settle soon? Or is there any common rule not stealing settler?

"common rule not stealing settler" - this reminds of attack me as i learned at the dojo lame and boring. OFC not slaughter them all as my colleague up said .

It's a game - if there wasn't a gentlemans agreement before the game started then alls fair.

Play to win or not at all.

The only reason I wouldn't take the settler is if I didn't want to fight a war for the next however many turns. If I can steal it, make it back to safety, and put it to use, better believe I'm taking it.

People quit too easily - at the first sign of adversity - or expect to win every game or something. The production loss of a settler isn't that impactful in my experience. The bigger pain is losing the city location, and then having to fight reinforcements to take the city. And the worst part is even if you do, it can't grow until it gets ceded to you in a peace deal. Definitely worth an extra couple turns to get it an escort, and nobody to blame but yourself, not even the barbs.

Some people want to take huge risks and get away with it for free. Such players remind me about the big banks. Not to be trusted. You don't want such people in your games.

I'll steal a settler if it is near lands that I want and if it is an early settler. If they guy does not quit, this will start a rage war, but if you just produce units out of the city the settler makes you will win.

I won't steal a settler if its on the other side of the map, or if my opponent has 3 cities down already. A mad opponent with 3 cities will ruin your game much more effectively than a guy with one, and while you fight the rest of the players will get ahead of you.

Steal it and wait for that player to quit. MP in civ has and always will be a mess and so I play to make my opponents quit rather than "to win" because getting them to quit is just faster.

Wish Civ6 (or maybe civ 7 if you are listening firaxis) has a win/loss/quit ratio for profiles. I would take great glee in skimming over those.

If you are interested in tracking wins and losses and playing fun, quality games that actually go to completion - join us in the Civplayers group chat on Steam, and sign up for the ladder in the links below. There's a tournament most Saturdays (or play regular FFA, 1v1, or 2v2 ranked games organized in chat at any time). Once I joined this group I can hardly bear to play any public games. People quit for the silliest reasons and complain if you actually attack them. The Civplayers group is a different breed.
