Hello, my name is michael, im kinda new here and I had an idea for a new unit, but I have absolutely no clue how to go about doing this. My idea was something in the sort of a ww2 style Hawker Typhoon or Sturmovik ground attack air unit. I have a flicster and Paintshop pro 7/animation shop so I could help make it if someone could help me. Heres a link to a picture of a typhoon(my favorite airplane of that era, and an Il-2 Sturmovik:

:goodjob: We need more people to make units!

I am new here also. I just started my first two units, the R2 droid and barbarian warrior. Hopefully, we will end with a bunch of unit creators here.

In order to start making your new unit:
1) Open up flicster and choose a unit that you want to edit and go to the "export" folder. Just select the name, the path, and the number of frames that you want. -or- Go to "new" under the "file" toolbar and choose what you want.

2) Open up Paint Shop and start drawing/editing your frames.

Thats pretty basic, if you need more help, just ask.

thank you very much for your help :), and I do agree we need more new unit creators like us so we can learn from each other:D . I have also seen your two new units, they look really good so far, I just hope my attempts are as good:eek: . Good luck on the these units, and may many more follow :D .

Yup! More unit maker is definitely needed around here. And making animation is fun!

Of course with more unit maker means there will be less work for me. I am currently drown by the unit request. :D Hopefully with you guys coming in I can stay afloat again. ;)

And with less request to fill means I will have more time trying out some fancy units that suddenly come to my mind.

Ive decided to try my hand at unit creating (first time ever, i tryed to create civ2 units before but failed miserably). Im changing the swordsman into a jedi unit. Heres my work after about 15 minutes.

Hey tpasmall! The picture didn't work.:( I think that you tried to place the pic in the text, try attaching a gif picture so it says "tpasmall has attached this file:" at the bottom of the screen.

hmm i can see it. well anyway, the unit so far hasnt had much changed (except the sword was changed to a lightsaber and the shield is removed off the first picture.

Also, should i remove the shadow of the blade? Lightsabers do emit light, not shadow.......

EDIT- My bad. I figured it out

Just wondering, do you need Animation Shop or Paint Shop Pro for making units? And can you get demos of these prgrams anywhere.

you need paint shop pro and flicster to make units. you can get a demo of paint shop at download.cnet.com

Yes, I can help you there.

If you are going to attach an image, open up paint shop pro and open your unit PCX. Select the part that you want to show us by using the selection tool, copying your selection, and pasting it as a new picture, from there, you just save it as a gif picture and attach it at the bottom of the screen.

For animations you must use animation shop. Open up your animation flc file (after turning your FXM file into an flc with flicster) and when it opens, choose the frames that you want us to see, then save it as an animated gif.

Still have problems? Feel free to ask.

Ok, ive sort of gotten started on my project but I havent gotten much done because of school and work, but so far I have at least gotten the defaut view done, I used the fighter as a base, and im sorry, but there is not whole lot difference that is noticeable between the fighter-(looks like a spitfire), and my changes.

BTW I also started on the east attack animation a little while ago (about 20 minutes ago), its not completely finished as the wings arent right and the intake for the engine unter the nose is missing, but I just wanted to see if you thought the firing sequence of the guns would look right, I think it looks pretty cool so far actually and im finding this a very fun hobby :D .
