I know that when you get the United Nation the other civilisation that you are in war with offer peace to you and if you don't declare war on your opponent there is no war. Also when you declare war on an other civilisation they don't talk to you for a long time so you can't attack stop the war and attack again.
When an opponent have the United Nation and attack you. You can refuse the negociation or attack him next turn(of course they can't for alliance). I want to know if there is exeption about that.

I would have to say the only way you can do this is if you declare war the next turn. But if the computer doesnt want peace then you can stay in the war until they want it or you win. Really you can just keep declaring war but it will hurt your reputation badly. In a multiplayer game that wonder has no affect.

IIRC this is wrong. The AI can declare war on you, even with the UN.

My main reason for having the UN:
Without the UN, your enemies might offer you cease-fires (which in demo you might have to accept unwillingly). If you don't want to sneak-attack (because of rep), you have nil to say in such a relationship. They can do anything, you can do nothing.
With the UN, however, they are forced to offer a peace treaty after the cease-fire (which in demo you usually have to take...). With a peace treaty, you suddenly have some rights, like demanding them to leave your territory. If you ask them to leave often enough, they usually turn against you and either break the treaty or sneak-attack.

So, with the UN, they at least won't run around your territory, and if you're lucky, they might declare war on you so that you can continue eradicate them without losing rep.

Your right, The UN does not stop the AI from declaring war on you, it only means that the AI must accept a ceasefire when you talk to it. The same goes for you. You can own the UN and declare war, (if your senate allows it). Ironically, the UN does not stop a war from starting, it just ends a war when contact is made.

Thanks for information, it's just that in the end of a game I took the ONU by taking and opponent city and I stop the war with the opponent civilisation and a peace treaty. After they didn't like me and I also do an international incident by stealing a technology without being in war but they didn't declare war on me. I can guess that I was lucky that there is no war.

I agree with funxus. If you don't have UN, you start to apriciate its value much more. Ceace-fire is the worst diplomatic state to be in, closely folowed by "no agreement". No agreement is sometimes worse, because the comp. can steel tech from you and you don't even get international incidents.

Ps. How do you quote?

What most annoys me is how they can refuse to talk to you, even if you have GW or UN. I've waited five or ten turns for them to stop refusing.

Capture one of their cities and they'll be pretty talkative.

EDIT: After posting I realised you probably meant peace time and not during a war. I'll let it stay anyway...

I find the United Nations a very useful wonder. However, I sometimes get irritated by the fact that the AI always wants to make peace. (or at least almost always...). Evon so, i build the UN as soon as it appears.:nuke:
