Hi there, I just realized it's possible in (at least) one situation to declare war on somebody and not have your attackers expelled from enemy territory. Do you know or can figure out which one?

(It's very niche and hardly practical, but I've tested it and it works.)

Going off memory, so might be wrong, but:
Spoiler :
Some units have the "can explore rival territory" tag, which allows them to enter rival territory without Open Borders (and, in turn, not be expelled when Open Borders is broken by a DoW). This is mainly limited to units such a spies, but one notable exception is Willem's East-Indiaman. A transport ship that has the tag which allows it to stay inside rival territories, and in turn allows the units it carries to do the same. Unfortunately if memory serves me IEM cannot enter rival cities without open borders regardless, so you cannot use them to send missionaries onto coastal cities through closed borders and try to convert cities straight off the ship.

Spoiler West thing below :
East Indiaman (well, Carrack has it too but more niche - since can't upgrade to Galleon as option, damm it!) "special trait" is so special (and used for hundreads of games - no, literally most played leader) that sometimes I forget that it is UU thing and not general. Big benefit is that can attack 2 cities same time from same naval SoD. Heck, I even have attacked from lake next to capital in T1 of war  Also handy to move into correct position, crossing waters of other AI I don't have OB

Yes, you're right, of course, although I was only thinking of the Carrack, so instead of teaching it seems I was taught! I should have known better than to think this was a revelation, but I'm probably not even two decades late. 🙂

My test was strangely satisfying, though: I worldbuildered myself two Carracks with marines and took out Monty on turn 2.
