I'm home, where are you?
I have begun work on two WWI era airplanes the German Fokker E-series mono-plane and the English Sopwith Camel Biplane. So far I have the default and move animations... and I'm planning on borrowing the bomb animation from the Fighter since it's just an explosion.... so that leaves the attack and death.

Here's a preview of the Fokker

Your Eindecker could do with a little more shading, but the Camel is absolutely perfect!

Would it be possible for you to make an Albatross as well? After all, the Albatross D5 and D7 were the mainstays for the German Imperial airforce. And how about a Nieuport 17 for the French and a Spad for the Americans while you're at it? ;) :goodjob:

I'll look into the other WWI planes... I really only started the Sopwith because someone suggested it for game balance with I started the Fokker... So I guess a French and American plane could be useful :) Although the SPAD was really a French plane used by the Americans... I can't really find any WWI planes designed by the Americans. And my Fokker was used extensively by the Turkish forces as well... Plus it looks surprisingly similar to the French Morane-Saulnier, so it could be used by the French as well... Like I said I'll look into them... Don't want to overload myself and get none of them done :)

Kinboat,

I asked this question of you in your Mecha thread but let me repost it here where it is more appropriate.

How do you fit the WWI planes into the game? When you discover flight, you are given WWII planes which makes any WWI plane immediately obsolete.

I'd love to use them. How do you fit them in?

Just make the WWI planes available with Combustion--after all, they use combustion engines.

If we move the current plane to Advanced Flight with the Bomber then we could use a WWI plane for Flight... That's how I plan on using it anyway... Here's a preview of the German Albatross... I'm also working on the French SPAD and Nieuport 17... Found some blueprint like drawings which makes my 3d modeling that much easier...

Oh the propeller will spin... these animations are just the default in the 8 directions... and I'm having problems with the attacks... For the fighter in the game it's just some flashes and shading effects... having problems getting it to look right, so maybe since it's such a small animation I can skip it and start on the Death...

So what does everyone think? Little flashes needed for the attack or not?

I don't know about tracer bullets  But I did manage to get a relatively simple (and painless on my part) flash for the gun firing... Finished the Fokker and started on the death and attack for the Sopwith... I think I'll post them all at once...

For the planes I find most of my pictures from this site http://pilots-n-planes-ww1.com/index.htm
Then I build the model in POVRay... For my Mecha I found a bunch of pictures from Anime comics and worked from those...

Glad everyone likes my work... Finished the Sopwith Camel and moved on to the SPAD 13... My list keeps growing :) I'll check out the SE5.a and Fokker DVII. My only problem is that some of these planes start looking alike at the small scale the Civ3 units are... I'm actually thinking of making a model of an Italian plane from WWI with 9 wings! It never got off the ground :)
