Updates to Civics effects in real time?

Something I noticed - when choosing a new set of civic cards, the changes to science etc., don't take place until you have chosen, confirmed and then exited the civic screen. This makes it difficult to see if a particular choice is sound until you have committed and then it's too late, without anarchy, to change your mind.

Surely the choices should update as you move cards around? If you choose the ones that lessens gold maintenance, it would be great to actually see that reflected in the gold tally in the total bar as you pop a card in place. Can't really understand why this mechanic isn't implemented.

While I'm on the subject of gold, science - is the decimal place after the totals really necessary - not sure what its adding to the game...
