I realize the mod creators are very busy updating their great mods to Warlords, but I'd like to do the same to some customized scenarios I have.

Could you tell those of us wanting to do this what steps you are taking to update the files? What programs you use, what files you reference?

I have the wonderful program "Beyond Compare" which is helpful, recommended by a modder here. What others help?

Also, did Firaxis provide on the disk some listing of the files and changes from 1.61 to Warlords?

Is there a listing or discussion somewhere as to what the log files tell a modder who encounters errors? I am trying to update a scenario and have all the python and xml errors taken care of, but once I tell the game what civ I want and just before the map loads... it crashes to desktop, giving me that delightful windows error box "Sorry about the inconvenience...but..." From my limited knowledge of what the log files provide, I see no inference as to what the problem is. When I was having XML errors, they were very helpful, but not now.

I emailed Take2 the other day about it... no response yet. How open is Firaxis to emails with such problems. Should I expect to hear from Take2?

Thanks to the modders for all your hard work and help, btw. I hope you can add something here too.

I think the easiest is to do a compare between the Warlords and Vanilla versions of all of the custom files you are going to use for your mod. That way you can easily see the differences and change your custom files accordingly.

I don't really have much of an idea about that crash thing. Are you using a .dll from Vanilla?

Thanks for your response Gunner.

I loaded the Warlords game normally.... the game runs fine, I can start and play a scenario or custom single player game in Warlords with no problem. I did go through every file and compared the old and the new, at least I think I did, I get no xml errors and I don't have a custom python folder in my mod. I certainly didn't move or replace any .dll files.

Well then its most likely something wrong with your actual scenario file. I don't really know any good way to fix that other than to open it up (with wordpad or notepad) and look around. How much work would it be to just redo everything on the map?

Redo everything on the map....hehe... good one.... <g>

It would be a tremendous amount of work to recreate the map, with the cities, resources, units etc.

Do you mean by "actual scenario file" the .CivWarlordsWBSave file?

But you do give me a good troubleshooting idea! I think I will take my WBS file, load an empty Players sections, and just have the plot info load, and see if that causes the crash. Then I can try the player info with an empty map, see if that is it.

Gunner...you are a GENIUS!

I hope this thread is contributed to by good modders who can help people port their old pre-WL mods to Warlords, and not have to "start over".

Again Gunner, thanks.

Neither file worked, though I did get some XML errors in the xml.log file. But nothing came up on the screen while loading, which is surprising.

*bump*

I am surprised none of the civ modders have offered any informaton here.

It seems like you just have some type of typo in your scenario file. Or some other weird thing like that. This is not a typical error that everyone goes through when updating to Warlords, so you're probably going to need to find the problem yourself.

Yeah, I hear that a lot.

I don't need to get someone else to FIX my problem, but it would be nice if I had some idea what the log files are telling me so I could isolate the problem.

I think I will just start over clean, and I appreicate all the feedback I did get, so thanks.
