US to destory stock piles of nerve gas

too bad. VX gas is quite deadly, horrible stuff. It has a positive use though like a nuclear bomb it kills a hell of a lot of people, but unlike one the negative effects are washed away after a month or so, well that's not possitve rather the lesser evil (no radiation to kill off the future generations) I wouldn't advocate it's use, but it is a great for intimidation. We thought it was so good in fact that we traded nuclear technology to the British to get it. lousy International Chemical Weapons Convention.

Why get rid of it then?

Sounds better than a nuclear weapon... :hmm: does it kill agonisingly slowly?

Well, I better get going before it's all gone!

as with any toxin it depends on the dose and type of exposure. I think it's anywhere from 5 minutes to 18 hours(so it is agonisingly slow but let's face it if your going to use WMD you obviously don't really care how your enemy dies) some people that are exposed won't even die, but the same happends with nuclear weapons. Those that don't die will generaly recover in a few weeks(without any long lasting effects or so I've heard) I also need to correct an earlier statement I looked it up again and saw that it will typically take a few months to get rid of it(through rain generally) Last time I looked only US, France, and Russia had VX gas and were all supposed to get rid of it by 2007.

Why destroy this and keep nukes around? VX is much better on the enviroment and the cleanup costs a lot less-pretty nifty as far as WMDs go. Not to mention it disperses in a couple of months, as opposed to the decades (or even centuries) nukes take.

A shame. That stuff sounds kind of nifty.

Yeah, chemical weapons are awful, nasty, immoral, etc. But by destroying this we are limiting our military flexibility, which we absolutely need. You never know what kind of conflict we may end up with in which this stuff may be useful.

You mean it's okay for the USA to have chem/bio weapons, but no one else? Tell me, do you put America before everything else?

Chemical and biological weapons are probably the most disgusting and repulsive weapons ever designed.
That some imbeciles consider it "good stuff", just show how low some people have sank.
