I leave for Italy on September 17, days before release.

I'd like to pre-order a US version and get it via download; having a CDROM shipped to my US address won't do my any good. I don't want to buy a version here - I once bought SimCity in Germany and it was almost impossible trying to read the German and play it. I don't want an Italian version.

Where can I pre-order a US version for download that includes some sort of bonus goodie hut?

See this thread for all pre-order websites. Direct2Drive US should work for you just fine. Also play.com is a UK company that sends the UK DVD to Italy by mail (free postage).

Btw, the game install will be multi-language as far as I can tell (to be confirmed). Regardless of where you download or purchase it, you should be able to play the game in English.

If you pre-order on Steam, you can still log in to Steam and get your copy, on the 21st I recon. Depending on your internet availability in Italy ofcourse, you will need a connection anyway but if its a limited one then get the DVD sent to you. Be it an american company posting to italy or a UK company.

Ok, so I've been out of the loop. I've been to both Direct2Drive and Steam, both of the require "3rd party download" of Steam.

I'll be playing entirely offline. What is Steam and why do I need it? I just want an activation code.
